Legia moved first.
His massive hand shot forward, fingers splayed wide like the claws of a dragon, aiming to crush Ottar where he stood. The air itself seemed to scream as his palm descended, the force of the motion creating a lethal burst of wind pressure.
Ottar leaped.
His body moved with explosive power, his muscles coiling and releasing in a single fluid motion. He shot upward, his feet leaving the ground just as Legia's fingers closed on empty air, the impact of the giant's palm cratering the earth where he had stood. The shockwave rippled outward, sending trees swaying and loose rocks tumbling.
Ottar landed on a low-hanging branch, his greatsword already in motion. He swung with all his strength, the blade carving across Legia's forearm. The edge bit deep, slicing through the giant's thick hide and drawing a line of blue blood.
Legia looked at the wound, then back at Ottar. His grin widened, a flash of white teeth in his massive face.
"Sharp," he admitted, his voice carrying a note of genuine appreciation. "That won't save you, however."
He swung his arm.
The motion created a devastating burst of wind pressure, a shockwave so powerful it tore through the forest like a hurricane. Trees splintered, their trunks snapping like twigs. Rocks were hurled through the air like pebbles. Ottar was thrown from the branch, his body tumbling through the chaos before he crashed into a massive pine.
The impact splintered the wood, and he hit the ground rolling, his body absorbing the damage with practiced efficiency. He came up in a crouch, his greatsword still in hand, his grey eyes already tracking the giant's next move.
Legia advanced.
The giant's foot came down, the impact sending shockwaves rippling through the earth. He reached down, his massive fingers closing around the trunk of a nearby tree. With a sound like thunder, he uprooted it, its roots tearing from the soil in a spray of dirt and stone. The tree was massive—its trunk wider than Ottar's entire body...and Legia wielded it like a bat.
"Let me show you," Legia rumbled, his voice thick with amusement, "what it means to face a Monarch."
He swung.
The tree carved a destructive arc through the air, its massive trunk aimed directly at Ottar. He dodged, his body a blur of motion, the tree missing him by inches and obliterating the ground where he had stood. The impact sent debris flying, and Ottar rolled to the side, coming up in a crouch.
Again and again, Legia swung. Each blow was devastating, each miss carving new craters into the forest floor. Ottar weaved between the strikes, his speed and reflexes allowing him to survive, but only barely. The giant's power was overwhelming...every swing sent shockwaves through the earth, every impact created a crater that could swallow a man whole.
Legia swung again, and Ottar was forced to jump. He soared over the tree's arc, his greatsword flashing as he carved a shallow gash across the giant's shoulder. He landed in a roll and came up swinging, his blade aimed at Legia's leg.
The edge bit deep, drawing another line of blue blood. But the wound was superficial....barely a scratch on the giant's thick hide.
Legia looked down at the cut, then back at Ottar. His grin widened. "Persistent. I like that. It makes the breaking more satisfying."
He dropped the tree and swung his fist.
The fist came down like a meteor, its sheer size and speed making it nearly impossible to dodge. Ottar threw himself to the side, but the shockwave caught him, sending him flying through the air. He crashed into a massive boulder, the impact cracking the stone and sending a jolt of pain through his body.
He forced himself to his feet, his chest heaving, his muscles screaming in protest. He had taken worse hits. He had survived worse. But Legia was relentless, his attacks coming faster and harder with each passing moment.
Legia advanced, his shadow falling over Ottar like a death sentence. "You fight well for a beast," he admitted, his voice almost conversational. "But you are still small. Still weak. Still insignificant." He raised his fist, shadows gathering around it. "I will crush you, and then it will dawn at you...What it means to refuse an offer from the Monarch of Beginning....What loyalty....Can do to you..."
Ottar's eyes narrowed. His grip on his greatsword tightened. He felt the familiar surge of power rising within him, the call of Beastification.
The pain faded as his body began to shift. His nails grew into claws, sharp and deadly. His muscles swelled, his form becoming more bestial, more savage. His instincts surged to the forefront, sharpening his senses, his reflexes, his power.
Legia's fist came down.
Ottar dodged....faster than before, more fluid. He moved around the giant's strike, his greatsword carving a deep gash across Legia's ribs. Blue blood sprayed across the forest floor.
Legia roared in surprise and pain. "You!"
Ottar pressed his advantage.
His greatsword became a blur of motion, each strike faster and more powerful than the last. He carved deep wounds into the giant's legs, his arms, his torso. Legia stumbled back, his red eyes wide with shock.
But he was still a Monarch.
He swung his massive hand, catching Ottar mid-strike and sending him flying. He crashed through a grove of trees, his body broken and bloody. His Beastification flickered, struggling to maintain itself.
Ottar forced himself to his feet. His body screamed in protest, but he ignored it. He had faced worse. He had survived worse.
But Legia was still standing. Still strong. Still relentless.
Ottar's grey eyes narrowed, his mind racing.
"The Fang"
He reached for the weapon at his side..a gift from the one who had stolen his goddess.
The Fang of the One-Eyed Black Dragon.
It was not a sword. It was a fang, massive and curved, its edges honed to impossible sharpness by the scales of the Black Dragon himself. It pulsed with dark energy, ancient and hungry, and as Ottar gripped it, he felt its power surge through him....A gift from Damien, who upon removing two of the Fangs, kept one for himself, hanging it in his office....But the second one...He gifted to Ottar, knowing full well that it required one such as him to wield as weapon.
Black aura erupted around him.
It coiled across his body like a second skin, dark and cold, wrapping around his limbs and torso. His Beastification intensified, scales forming across his arms and chest, his eyes glowing with feral light. The Fang's power sharpened his instincts, heightened his senses, made him faster, stronger, more deadly.
But it came with a cost.
Emotion faded. Compassion, hesitation, doubt...all of it drained away, replaced by a cold, primal desire to kill. The man Ottar had been was still there, but he was buried beneath layers of instinct and rage.
Legia's eyes widened slightly. "That power... I recognize it. That is the essence of the Dragon that my master created." His grin returned, wider than before. "Interesting. You wield the fang of a beast that was not even worthy of true dragonhood."
Ottar did not respond.
He attacked.
Legia swung his fist, the shockwave rippling through the air. Ottar dodged, his movements faster than before, more fluid, more instinctive. The Fang carved a deep gash across the giant's arm, blue blood spraying across the forest.
Legia roared in pain. "You dare...."
Ottar moved behind him, the Fang slicing across the giant's back. Legia stumbled, his massive frame lurching forward. He tried to turn, to face his attacker, but Ottar was already gone.
He appeared in front of him, the Fang carving a deep wound across Legia's chest. The giant fell to his knees, his red eyes wide with shock.
"You cannot!" Legia gasped, his voice thick with disbelief. "You cannot defeat me. I am a Monarch. I am...."
Ottar's Fang carved across his neck, cutting off his words. Blue blood sprayed across the forest floor.
Legia tried to rise, his massive hands pushing against the earth. He managed to get to his knees, his red eyes blazing with fury. He slammed his fists into the ground, the impact sending shockwaves rippling through the forest. Trees toppled. Rocks shattered. The earth split open, revealing the darkness beneath.
But Ottar was no longer on the ground. He had leaped, using the shockwave's force to launch himself into the air. The Fang was raised high, its black edge gleaming with hungry light.
He came down like a meteor.
The Fang pierced Legia's skull, sinking deep into his brain. The giant went rigid, his red eyes widening one final time before the light faded. His massive body crumpled, crashing to the ground with an impact that shook the forest.
Ottar stood over the corpse, his chest heaving, the Fang still embedded in the giant's skull. His scales slowly receded, the black aura fading. His eyes returned to their normal grey, and the cold, primal rage faded, replaced by the familiar weight of emotion.
He pulled the Fang free and wiped it clean.
"For Freya.
For The God-King."
