The chamber erupted.
Damien moved first....but he was no longer the same fighter who had entered this realm. His body blurred across the space between them, shadows trailing behind him like a living cloak. The darkness around him didn't just follow; it danced. It coiled around his limbs, wrapped around his torso, extending from his back like wings made of night.
Baran's eyes blazed with white fire. His daggers crackled with lightning, arcs of blue energy dancing along the blades. He met Damien's charge head-on, his weapons slashing upward in a cross pattern.
Damien didn't block.
Shadows erupted from the ground between them, forming a wall of darkness that absorbed the lightning strikes. The energy crackled against the shadow barrier, sparking and hissing, but it could not penetrate.
Damien emerged through the shadows on the other side, his daggers already in motion.
The first slash sent a crescent of darkness flying toward Baran's chest. The demon king twisted, the attack grazing his armor, carving a deep gash through the pale yellow metal. He spun, his daggers unleashing a torrent of lightning that arced across the chamber, striking the ground where Damien had been a moment before.
But Damien was already elsewhere.
He appeared above Baran, his daggers descending like falling stars. Baran raised his weapons to block...the impact sent shockwaves rippling through the chamber, cracking the stone beneath them. They broke apart, each skidding backward across the ground.
Baran laughed.
"YES! This is what I have been waiting for!"
His body erupted in white flames, the heat so intense that the air around him shimmered. Lightning danced across his skin, arcing between his horns, his claws, his weapons. He launched himself at Damien, his daggers becoming blurs of blue and white.
Damien met him.
Shadows exploded from his body....tendrils of darkness that reached out to meet the flames. They wrapped around Baran's arms, his legs, his torso, trying to hold him in place. Baran burned through them with his white fire, but for every shadow he destroyed, two more took its place.
Damien pressed the attack.
His daggers slashed in wide arcs, each swing releasing a blade of shadow that carved through the air toward Baran. The demon king dodged, weaved, and countered, but the attacks were relentless. One slash caught his shoulder, opening a wound that spilled blue blood. Another carved across his thigh.
Baran's lightning answered.
Bolts of blue energy shot from his daggers, arcing across the chamber toward Damien. The Shadow Monarch raised his hand—and the shadows rose to meet the lightning. They absorbed the strikes, dissipating the energy before it could reach him.
The chamber became a battlefield of light and dark.
They clashed across the endless landscape, their movements too fast to track. Damien's shadows formed shields, weapons, tentacles...anything he could imagine. They lashed out at Baran from every direction, forcing the demon king to fight on all fronts.
Baran laughed as he fought. His lightning carved through the shadows, his white flames burned them away, but for every attack he destroyed, Damien created three more.
"YOU ARE MAGNIFICENT!" Baran roared, his voice echoing through the chamber. "You are finally comparable to him...Yes....You are Becoming a God of Shadows"
Damien didn't answer. He was too focused on the battle, on the rhythm of the fight, on the way the shadows responded to his will.
He extended his hand...and a massive shadow tendril erupted from the ground, slamming into Baran's chest. The demon king flew backward, crashing into a pillar that shattered on impact. He rose, his body crackling with lightning, and launched himself at Damien again.
His daggers rained down like lightning strikes. Damien met each one with a shadow barrier, the darkness absorbing the blows. He countered with a slash that sent a wave of darkness toward Baran's feet, forcing the demon king to leap.
In midair, Damien struck.
His shadow tendrils wrapped around Baran's legs, yanking him back to the ground. Before the demon king could recover, Damien was on him, his daggers carving across Baran's chest, his arms, his shoulders.
Baran screamed....not in pain, but in ecstasy. In raw joy, ecstatic of how much freedom he felt now, going all out
The white flames on his head intensified, erupting into a pillar of fire that forced Damien back. He could feel the heat even through his shadow armor. But he did not retreat for long.
The shadows around him grew denser, darker, more powerful.
They clashed again.
This time, Damien didn't hold back. His shadows exploded outward in every direction, filling the chamber with darkness. The only light came from Baran's flames and the sparks of their weapons.
Damien's daggers slashed in rapid succession, each strike releasing a wave of shadow that carved through the air. Baran dodged, but the attacks were too fast, too numerous. One slash opened his side. Another carved across his ribs. A third caught his cheek, splitting the skin.
Baran's lightning answered.
A massive bolt of energy erupted from his daggers, striking the ground between them. The explosion sent Damien flying backward, his shadows scattering. He rolled to his feet, his shadow armor cracked, but already repairing.
Baran lunged through the debris.
His daggers drove toward Damien's chest. Damien caught his wrists, their weapons locked, their faces inches apart. The white flames licked at Damien's armor. The lightning crackled against his skin.
But he did not yield.
"The Power of Pride" Baran said, his voice low, almost reverent. "How can a mortal wield such power? Ashborn was always a genius...to cause a mortal like you to grow into a God....HAHAHHAHA"
Damien pushed him back, driving his knee into Baran's stomach. The demon king staggered, and Damien pressed his advantage.
His shadows rose around Baran, forming a cage of darkness. The demon king burned through them, but Damien was already inside the cage, his daggers driving toward Baran's heart.
Baran blocked...barely. The impact sent shockwaves through the chamber, shattering the ground beneath them. They fell through the broken stone, landing on a lower level of the chamber, the debris raining down around them.
Damien rose first.
His shadows extended from his body, reaching for Baran. The demon king met them with flames and lightning, but the shadows were too numerous, too relentless. They wrapped around his arms, his legs, his torso, holding him in place.
Damien walked toward him.
"It's over....Baran....I win"
His dagger slashed across Baran's side. Then across his ribs. Then across his throat.
Dark blood sprayed across the chamber.
Baran fell to his knees, his hand pressed against the wound on his neck. The lightning faded from his body. The white flames extinguished.
He smiled.
"Thank you," he whispered. "For freeing me. For giving me an honorable death."
His body collapsed.
Damien stood over him, breathing hard.
The shadows receded, returning to his body. The chamber was silent once again.
He had won.
