Jason's eyes fell on the girl at last. Raven. Her skin was pale, almost porcelain under the eerie red glow of this realm. Her violet hair framed her face in sleek strands, spilling down like silk that refused to shine in Trigon's world. Her eyes—deep, violet, and burning with hidden storms—radiated both fragility and danger. The long dark robe she wore fluttered faintly with her aura, as if shadows themselves bent to her presence. Beautiful, yes—but in a way that warned you never to come too close.
Raven's hands shimmered with dark energy as her gaze locked onto him."Another one of my father's pawns… pretending to be a friend. Stay back."
Jason raised a brow. "Must've happened a lot for you to be this suspicious of me… But I assure you that I am—"
Before he could finish, a dark purple blast shot from her palm. Jason slipped aside, evading it by inches."Now that's not—"
The ground ripped open beneath him, tendrils of dark magic snaking up and shackling his arms and legs. Jason looked at them with a dry smirk."Very nice of you."
An instant later, the tendrils shattered into pieces around him, his raw strength bursting free.
Raven's eyes widened slightly. She launched herself upward, hovering high, her robe unfurling like a veil of darkness. From its abyss, countless beams of purple energy rained down like arrows of pure wrath. But Jason was gone—vanished into the chaos.
A shadow passed over her. She turned too late. He came leaping from a broken spire, fist descending. She threw up a shimmering shield, violet and pulsing—but the impact cracked it like glass. She twisted and dove to the ground, but Jason was already there. His hand clamped lightly on her shoulder before she could strike again.
"Now," Jason said, his voice steady, "I think you can imagine the amount of ways I could kill you in this instant… but I didn't. That should be enough to prove my intentions… no?"
Raven spun away, her aura still flaring, eyes filled with anger and calculation.
"If it makes you feel any better," Jason continued, "I didn't come alone. Your friends—the Teen Titans. And Constantine, Zatanna. They asked for my help to bring you back from this hell."
Raven's eyes narrowed. "I didn't ask to be saved. I'm here… to keep them safe."
Jason tilted his head, his tone calm. "And how exactly does leaving your friends behind keep them safe? Humor me."
Her voice trembled, but her conviction didn't. "My father will do anything to catch me. He'll kill them without hesitation. So I came here… to confront him."
"Confront him how?" Jason asked, his expression unreadable. "Don't get me wrong—you're powerful, Raven. But that entity you call father? He's a monster. A nightmare with unfathomable strength."
Her jaw tightened. "Then I die. My death will stop him from conquering Earth. If that's the cost, then it's worth it."
Jason met her gaze, eyes hard. "Nah. I don't like that plan. We don't even know if Trigon can cross into Earth without you. Instead… we take you back. Keep you alive. That's safer."
"YOU DO NOT GET TO DECIDE THAT!" Raven snapped, her aura flaring, the ground trembling faintly under her shout.
Jason didn't flinch. "No, I don't. But I know they would."
He pointed past her shoulder.
Raven froze, slowly turning. Behind her, the others emerged from the shadows of Azarath—Nightwing, Starfire, Cyborg, and Beast Boy. Their faces were tired but determined, relief in their eyes at seeing her alive.
"…Hi, Raven," Starfire said softly, her voice warm and trembling.
.....
"My father took my mother as a wife after he was summoned… and gave birth to me. But he left. For a while, we lived in peace—my mother, myself, and the other priests. Until one day… he came. He used my mother as a conduit, killed everyone, even her, and destroyed Azarath. I escaped to Earth, hoping to find happiness there." Raven's voice was steady, but her words weighed heavily on everyone listening.
"I did find happiness—with you all." Her eyes softened as she looked at the Titans. "But it was false. I didn't escape my father. No… I was allowed to come to Earth. After months there, I began to suffer migraines. Then came the voices—orders. This—" she lifted her head, revealing the red gem that pulsed faintly on her forehead—"was placed on me by my father. Its purpose is to make me the gateway, like my mother was. A doorway for him to Earth, where he intends to devour it. I returned here because here, he cannot tempt or guide me. He cannot use me as a gateway—he's already here. But if I return to Earth, then one day… he will take me over. And he will be unleashed."
Her words fell like stone.
"Then we'll find another solution," Nightwing said firmly. "But you have to come back with us, Raven. We can't just let you die here. No sacrifices."
"Yes," Starfire's voice broke in, glowing with warmth and conviction. "Raven, you are one of us. You don't truly expect us to abandon you, do you? I know you don't—because you came for me, when my people tried to take me back. Now I will fight for you."
"Yeah," Beast Boy added, his voice shaky but strong. "We're the Teen Titans. We don't leave a member behind."
"Hold on." Constantine's voice cut sharp through their words. His expression was grim. "If what she says is true, then bringing her back is inviting catastrophe to Earth. Trouble on the scale of a dimensional demon."
"JOHN!" Zatanna snapped, her eyes blazing.
"What are you saying, Constantine?" Nightwing demanded.
"I'm saying she's too dangerous. If her story checks out, this isn't your decision to make. The safety of the entire planet is on the line." His words were cold, unflinching.
"She's one of us, John," Zatanna shot back. "A hero. She's fought for Earth's safety before. She hasn't done anything wrong."
"Maybe not. But that doesn't matter. Her father is a dimensional Satan, and he can only cross into our world through her. I don't know about you, but I'd sacrifice her to keep Earth safe."
Raven lowered her eyes, her voice trembling. "He's right. I don't deserve happiness. To return. I'm the spawn of something evil…"
"No!" Starfire's eyes flared bright green, her voice rising in anger. "Do not listen to him, Raven! You are ours. We will take you!"
Constantine stood his ground. "I'm the only one who can open the gate back to Earth. Either we leave her here, or I leave you all here with her. No taking her back. This isn't just some Titan mission—it's a world-level threat. Justice League, Superman—none of them can intervene. Not with this. This is on us."
"We'll fight you if we have to, John," Nightwing warned. His voice was low but lethal. "Don't make us do it. She's a Titan. A core member."
"She is a threat," Constantine snapped back. "To the planet. What don't you understand?" His gaze fell sharply on Jason. "What about you? You, of all people, should agree with me. You kill villains without hesitation. She's worse than them. Not a mere murderer or rapist—she is the world's end incarnate. You gonna just stand there and allow this?"
Jason's silence was heavy. Everyone tensed, waiting. Finally, he spoke. "Didn't you already know she was Trigon's daughter? Why switch now?"
"I knew she had demonic blood, that she drew power from him," Constantine said, his tone harsh. "But I didn't know she was the gateway. Trigon is dangerous beyond comprehension. To face him, we'd need another supreme being. Lucifer, Michael—none of them will help. They'll say this is our problem. Trigon isn't a threat we can handle."
Jason's eyes narrowed, and he turned to Raven. "You said the gem lets him plant suggestions in your head. Orders. Makes you a gateway. Right?"
"Yes."
"Then why hasn't he crossed over yet? What's he waiting for? If he can order you around, why hasn't he already taken you?"
Constantine scoffed. "Does that matter? I thought you were ruthless in protecting peace—"
"Shut up," Jason snapped, cutting him cold. "I want to hear her. I'm not killing someone innocent just because trouble follows her."
Raven took a slow breath. "He needs an invitation. My invitation. I have to give in. I have to allow him entry."
"And how are you holding up?" Jason asked, his tone direct. "Are you giving in?"
"No!" she said quickly, her voice trembling with conviction. "But sometimes… he overwhelms me. Angers me. His voice is constant. Every second, in my head."
"How do you stop it?"
"I fight back. Sometimes I can silence him—because my magic affects him. It forces him to stop. To retreat. But… it doesn't always work."
Jason tilted his head. "How is that possible? Trigon's a godlike dimensional demon. Not something a mere dark mage should be able to suppress."
"My magic is born from him. It hurts him," Raven admitted softly. "Sometimes… I even hear pain in his voice when I push back."
Jason was silent for a moment. Then, firmly: "Then it's settled. You fight. You deserve to live as much as anyone else. I will not abandon you because of the circumstances of your birth. Instead, I ask you—grow stronger. Fight him. Defy him."
Raven's eyes dropped. "But… I can't face him. I don't have—"
Jason knelt in front of her, his gaze steady. "Come with me. I'll keep you safe. I'll make you strong enough to protect yourself from him. And if the day comes when you lose yourself, when you're gone… I'll be the one to cut you down."
"What!? You can't—" Starfire's protest was silenced by Jason's sharp glare.
"Quiet. John would abandon her for what she might unleash. You'd accept her without any precautions. Neither is right. So I'll do both—I'll protect her and make her strong. But if she loses herself, I'll end it."
Nightwing stepped forward. "We can't accept that—"
"It's not your decision," Jason cut him off coldly. Then he turned to Raven, extending his hand. "It's yours. What do you want, Raven? To live as a danger to the world? To die as a sacrifice to protect it? Or… to fight for your own freedom? For your right to life?"
Raven's eyes locked onto his. In them, she saw no fear, no judgment—only peace. Her voice was quiet, but firm.
"I want freedom."
