Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Fangs, Magic, and Farewell

The moment we arrived at the battlefield, I froze.

I was shocked.

In front of us stood a massive white bear, far larger than any creature I had ever seen in this world. Towering at nearly eight to nine feet tall, it had thick white fur stained with blood, long scars from earlier fights, and muscles like boulders. It looked like a monster from a nightmare… except this was very, very real.

And it was fighting my siblings.

They were doing their best—biting, clawing, dodging—but it was clear they were outmatched. One of my siblings had a huge bite wound on his side, bleeding heavily, yet still fighting with desperate determination. Two others lay on the snow near the bear, unmoving. I didn't know if they were unconscious… or already gone.

The rest of my siblings saw us arrive and quickly retreated to regroup.

It was now six wolves versus one giant bear… if you didn't count the two lying in the snow.

And I… I was scared.

I'll admit it. I was terrified. How were we supposed to defeat something that big with just the six of us?

I found myself staring up at the sky, as if searching for an answer like some dramatic main character in a fantasy novel. But in reality, I was screaming inside.

"Hey, God… or whatever's out there!Damn you! Where the hell is my computer server, huh?! I want to log out already!"

Snapping myself out of it, I looked back at the bear just as Papa Wolf gave a sharp growl and charged straight at it, his massive body leaping through the air. At the same time, he gave us a command with his howl—surround the bear.

I wanted to yell, Are you insane?!

That bear was a tank. A beast. A walking death sentence.

But I had no choice.

Just as Papa Wolf lunged at the bear with open jaws, something incredible happened.

For a split second, a glowing, illusionary image of a much larger, more powerful wolf appeared behind him. It shimmered with silver light, fangs bared, its eyes blazing with power. It was like a spirit or magical projection, an ethereal guardian of some kind.

And then—BAM!

The illusionary wolf's fangs struck the bear alongside Papa Wolf's, and in one swift, thunderous moment…

The bear collapsed. Dead.

I couldn't believe it.

Was that… magic?

What… What just happened?!

I stood frozen in awe and fear, my mouth hanging open. My heart pounded not just from the fight, but from the realization:

If my Papa Wolf could use something like that, then there were others out there who could probably do even more terrifying things.

In all these five years I've lived with him… I had never seen anything like that. Not once.

The bear lay completely still. Dead. Finished.

But I didn't feel like celebrating.

Not yet.

I rushed over to the two wolves who had been lying in the snow. I dropped down beside the first one and pressed my head to his chest.

Nothing.

No heartbeat.No breath.No movement.

I felt a deep ache in my chest. My eyes stung as my tail drooped to the snow.

Tears leaked out before I even realized it.

One of my siblings howled softly behind me—a sad, mourning sound that cut through the cold air.

"Awooooooooooo…"

Still hoping, I ran to the second wolf. Maybe… just maybe…

But as I reached him, my hope vanished.

He was gone too.

My heart sank.

I looked up to the dark, snowy sky and let out a long, sorrowful howl that echoed across the forest.

"Hoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowl…"

One by one, the others joined in.A choir of pain.A sound of loss.

We weren't just wolves howling for the dead.We were a family grieving our fallen.

They weren't just hunting partners to me.They were brothers. Sisters. Friends.

We had grown up together—played together, fought together, survived together.

And now, I had lost two of them.

I was still reeling from the sight of Papa Wolf's magic—whatever that was—but the joy of seeing such power had already been buried under a mountain of grief.

That night, the wind howled with us.

And I knew…

This world wasn't just wild.

It was dangerous.

And it was only getting started.
