Avery smiled softly at Naya's question.
It wasn't an arrogant smile. Nor was it smug.
It was a knowing smile.
She didn't answer immediately. Instead, her gaze lingered on the television screen, now filled with headlines about Celestria's wildcard re-entry into IFA, reporters buzzing about the drama and triumph like it was the event of the year.
But her thoughts… her thoughts were already elsewhere. Avery had anticipated this long before it happened.
From the moment she even considered stepping onto the stage of IFA, she knew Layla wouldn't sit still.
If there was anything that she learned from her entire lifetime, her past lifetime it was that Layla never allowed anything to grow unless it served her. And certainly she would not let Avery grow.
That's why, early on, Avery had made the decision. She had to be prepared.
She had to make preparations without letting anyone know and be prepared for whatever came her way.
