Ethan didn't sleep.

He tried. Gods knew he tried.

But every time he closed his eyes, he felt that vibration again, deep in his bones, like the Dungeon was clearing its throat behind him.

So he stayed sitting against the broken stone, knees pulled close, dagger resting across his lap, watching the dark.

Hours bled past.

The faint light above Babel's route never changed. No sunrise. No sunset. Just the same tired glow like a promise he couldn't quite reach.

When he finally stood, his legs felt stiff and wrong, like they didn't belong to him yet.

"Alright," he muttered. "Round two."

He checked his gear.

Blade: chipped but sharp enough.

Second knife: still there.

Water skin: half full.

Dried meat: two strips left.

Not great. Not hopeless.

He moved out again, this time choosing a different passage — wider, sloped upward, air carrying the faint smell of moss and cold water.

The floor changed the farther he went.

The stone wasn't just stone anymore.

Veins of faint blue crystal ran through the walls, glowing softly like frozen lightning. Every step made the light ripple, like the Dungeon was watching him walk.

"Stop that," Ethan said quietly.

The crystals didn't listen.

A sound drifted ahead — water.

He followed it until the tunnel opened into a massive cavern.

A river cut through the center, slow and dark, the surface reflecting those blue veins like a broken sky. Stone pillars rose from the water, some natural, some too straight to be accidental.

And between them…

Footprints.

Fresh.

Human.

Ethan crouched, touching one with two fingers.

Still damp.

His breath caught.

"I'm not alone," he whispered.

Relief and fear tangled in his chest.

He followed the trail, staying low, moving from shadow to shadow.

The Dungeon shifted again.

The crystals dimmed.

The air thickened.

Then the river stopped flowing.

Not slowly.

Instantly.

The surface went perfectly still, like a sheet of glass.

Ethan froze.

The footprints ended at the water's edge.

A ripple formed in the center of the river.

Just one.

Then another.

Something rose beneath the surface.

Not breaking it.

Stretching it.

Like the water itself didn't dare resist.

That deep vibration returned.

Closer.

Stronger.

Ethan lifted his blade, breath slow, heart steady.

"Alright," he whispered. "So you're the one."

The s

urface bulged.

A shape pressed up from below.

And the Dungeon…

Went silent.
