The moment the thought struck him, Hoshiyomi grew even more excited. Having that mad scientist Orochimaru research the Mangekyō Sharingan had truly been the right move.
He had actually managed to make such an important discovery, and it was one that Hoshiyomi himself could easily achieve.
Hoshiyomi did not hide this matter and directly told Orochimaru that the source of this Yin Release chakra was himself.
Hearing this, Orochimaru's face was filled with delight:
"That's wonderful, Hoshiyomi-kun! I've been wondering how to obtain that specific Yin chakra. As you know, very few people can even use Yin Release at all, and even then, it's often just preserved through secret clan techniques."
"Even most of the Nara clan—those so-called masters of Yin—only know how to use it, not why it works. I was actually thinking that if I couldn't locate a source of pure Yin chakra, I might have to take a blood sample from Nawaki. But to think the answer was right here with you—it's incredible!"
Rubbing his hands together eagerly, Orochimaru added:
"Since you're the source of that mysterious Yin Release chakra, Hoshiyomi-kun, could you show me firsthand how it enhances the Mangekyō? The Yin chakra contained in Nawaki's cells is just too little to work with."
Hoshiyomi nodded without hesitation. For him, it wasn't difficult at all—and besides, he wanted to see for himself whether his Yin chakra could really help Kuugetsu's Mangekyō evolve.
Without another word, Hoshiyomi activated his Nature Transformation ability, turning all of his chakra into Yin Release. Just like when he'd saved Nawaki before, a dark, shadowy radiance shimmered around his hands almost instantly.
Under Orochimaru's practically salivating gaze, Hoshiyomi slowly opened the container holding the Mangekyō Sharingan and infused it with his Yin chakra.
This time, however, the process felt different from when he had infused Nawaki. He didn't feel that terrifying suction force—likely because this was just a lone eye, ancient and without a host body to draw on its power.
One second passed. Two seconds. Half a minute.
When he judged it was enough, Hoshiyomi withdrew his hand.
Almost immediately, Orochimaru lunged forward like a viper, snatching up the container and placing the Mangekyō under his microscope with a speed that might have even rivaled Hoshiyomi's sword strikes.
He hunched over his workstation, analyzing for a long while before finally straightening up. Fortunately, thanks to all his self-modifications, his spine could handle such awkward postures; otherwise, he'd have developed a hunchback long ago.
After stepping away from the microscope, Orochimaru announced his conclusion:
"Hoshiyomi-kun, our hypothesis was correct. Your Yin chakra does have a positive effect on the Mangekyō Sharingan."
But immediately afterward, he let out a small sigh of disappointment.
"However, the absorption rate is rather limited."
"That one minute of Yin chakra infusion only increased this Mangekyō's cellular vitality by about one percent. Judging from the microscope readings, that's about the maximum the eye can absorb at once."
"I can't tell whether that's because the eye lacks a living host to assist in absorption, or if that's simply the natural limit of its processing rate."
"To be sure, we'd have to perform a live test—but, well, live experiments are… risky. It's not as though we can just find a living Uchiha and use them as a test subject to minimize the danger."
At that, even Hoshiyomi couldn't help but feel a pang of regret.
Honestly, this kind of unresolved puzzle left a bitter taste. No matter how he turned Orochimaru's words over in his mind, he couldn't shake the frustration.
He wanted to uncover all of these mysteries right now—to understand every detail, to solve everything completely—so that his disciple could finally escape the looming threat of blindness.
With these thoughts in mind, Hoshiyomi fell deep into contemplation.
He knew he absolutely couldn't allow Orochimaru to become the same as in the original story — recklessly experimenting on live humans — but there were some studies that did require human physiology.
So what should he do?
Now that the war was over, even if Orochimaru started developing cloning technology, it would take a long time to bear fruit.
Could they really afford to just wait around like that?
If things went on this way, not only Orochimaru — even Hoshiyomi himself couldn't accept it.
"As long as your thinking doesn't collapse, there are always more methods than difficulties."
Holding on to that belief, Hoshiyomi began rummaging through his memories, digging through everything he knew from the original timeline, searching for any inspiration — some clever solution to this dilemma.
And sure enough, something came to him.
A name flashed through his mind —
Uchiha Shin!
Strictly speaking, Uchiha Shin wasn't a character from the original Naruto series, but rather a villain who appeared later in Boruto.
Before Hoshiyomi had transmigrated, he hadn't actually followed Boruto closely, but he'd seen plenty of posts and clips about it online, so he knew a fair bit about this "Uchiha Shin."
Uchiha Shin wasn't actually a member of the Uchiha clan.
He was one of Orochimaru's subordinates — or more accurately, one of his experiments — and he possessed a unique body capable of accepting any organ transplant without experiencing any rejection at all.
Aside from being an experimental subject, he had another unusual trait: he was an obsessive fanboy of Uchiha Itachi.
He even changed his surname to "Uchiha," viewing Sasuke — who had killed Itachi and ended the clan's legacy — as a disgrace to the Uchiha name, and he tried to resurrect the Akatsuki organization.
In Boruto, he was actually a fairly major antagonist.
But Hoshiyomi wasn't interested in any of that.
What caught his attention was Shin's unique physiology — that miraculous body that could accept any transplanted organ or tissue without rejection.
That kind of body was born for science.
With someone like that, plus cloning technology, every kind of biological research could be carried out safely, without worrying about loss, rejection, or damage.
It was like having a test subject tougher than leeks — endlessly renewable, infinitely useful.
If he could just find this so-called Uchiha Shin, then all the research bottlenecks they were facing would cease to be problems.
As long as Hoshiyomi could properly "re-educate" the boy — keep him from going off the rails and doing any of that over-the-top nonsense — and focus him entirely on research, then pairing him with Orochimaru could lead to a revolution in shinobi-world biology.
Judging from Boruto, Shin should have been older than Naruto and Sasuke, since he'd joined Orochimaru's ranks around the time of Orochimaru's defection — he was even the source of that grotesque arm that Danzo used.
That meant that right now, Uchiha Shin was definitely alive — just not yet discovered by anyone.
If Hoshiyomi made the effort, he should be able to find him.
And since Shin would still be a child at this point, with the right guidance and careful supervision, there was no way he could cause too much trouble.
Even in the chaotic circumstances of the original story, Shin hadn't made that big a splash — so with Hoshiyomi watching closely this time, what could possibly go wrong?
Having made up his mind, Hoshiyomi's eyes gleamed with resolve.
Operation: Find Uchiha Shin — commence!
