"WHAT?!" Everyone shouted in disbelief.
Even the princess, who was 100 percent on board with marrying Kai even though she was against arranged marriages, was shocked.

"I don't want the title of a lord, nor do I wish to marry your daughter." Kai wasn't interested in his daughter; besides, she was 16. Too young. He only mingled with adults.
"Do you not think my daughter is beautiful?" The king's voice started to rise.
"What in the waffles and pancakes conversation is this? No, that's not the reason why. Your daughter is too young." Kai sighed.
"I heard that you are only 19. How is three years younger than you too young?"
That was a valid point. In those old times, marriages around the age of 15 and so were normal. Even having children around this age was normal. In modern times, 16 was also the age of consent, and they could romantically be in a relationship with someone three years older than them, even physically.
