Chapter 7 - The Ice Demon

Kayn threw a weak fireball onto his own frozen arm to unfreeze it, and it succeeded, albeit the fireball stinging his arm a little.

Kayn felt more mana gathered around him, and he started moving and running around the place.

The ice demon did him good, and he wouldn't just let that slide easily.

With the barrage of ice spears, Kayn didn't have any time to draw his spells as the ice demon was much faster than him in casting magic.

Kayn didn't know how the ice demon did it, but he could just open up his palms, and magic runes would just appear.

It didn't even have the complex wording that he had seen other demons and himself use.

The runes only spelled "Ice Spear," and ice spears would manifest as the ice demon willed it.

It was a question that Kayn wanted the answer to, but he knew that in his current predicament, getting answers was not something he could currently do.

Wrapping his wings to make himself smaller and more agile, Kayn ran left and right in a zigzag pattern, using his tail to help his body turn in a drastic motion to escape the ice demon's spells.

Whenever Kayn saw that the ice demon was not sending him any attacks, he sent out more fireballs of his own.

He tried sending 5 of them in succession, in hopes that whatever the ice demon used to freeze the fireballs wouldn't stop the consecutive fireballs.

But his hope was shattered as the demon saw the 5 fireballs and it cast another spell.

"Ice shield," the runes once again appeared out of thin air in front of the ice demon's palm, and the spell manifested as the runes disappeared.

Around the demon, a thin barrier of ice appeared, encasing and protecting the demon as the fireball just hit the ice shield and disappeared, turning into ice mist.

Kayn clicked his tongue in annoyance as he decided to move on to his next strategy.

Kayn kept moving around while he kept throwing the fireballs, this time aiming at the ground as he planned to recreate the environment where he fought the third-eye demon.

Although the process took a bit longer due to the constant harassment of the ice demon, Kayn did it.

He threw tens of fireballs onto the snowy ground, causing a dense mist to block his surroundings.

Seeing that he couldn't even see the ice demon anymore, Kayn opened up his wings and jumped upward to spot the demon.

However, before he could even search for the ice demon, another surge of mana gathered as a pillar of ice rose from the ground below, bringing the ice demon up, higher than the dense mist.

Kayn's eyes soon met with the demon and he started to realize that, 'I'm fucked up.'

From the top of the ice pillar, the ice demon's eyes locked onto Kayn's body as he cast yet another spell.

"Frozen Wind."

As soon as the spell manifested, all the snowy mist on the ground started moving on its own as it gathered on Kayn.

The frozen mist was cold, but it wasn't anything that could freeze anyone- or at least any demon.

However, if a large amount of them were to gather and compress, then it wouldn't be any less dangerous than the ice spear that had almost frozen Kayn's arm with a single cut.

The moment the ice mist surged towards him, Kayn tried running away, but it was futile as he could never run faster than the wind.

The frozen mist crashed onto him as they slowly but surely started to freeze Kayn's whole body.

It wasn't an immediate effect where Kayn became frozen in a split second, so he wasn't left powerless as Kayn realized that he could never outrun the frozen mist.

Kayn opened up his mouth and began to throw fireballs towards himself, not caring whether he would actually burn from his own fire.

Although the fire did its work and Kayn was partially saved from the continuous frozen mist, he wasn't out of danger yet.

While Kayn was busy with the frozen mist and burning his own body, the ice demon opened up two of his palms this time and cast yet another spell.

"Ice Prison"

The ground beneath Kayn trembled as the ice demon's spell manifested.

He was still so busy dealing with the frozen mist that he couldn't react in time when ice pillars sprouted up all around him, trapping him in the middle as they bent on the top, trapping Kayn inside an ice dome.

But the ice demon wasn't done yet.

Still with its two palms open, he cast another ice spear.

But this time, the spell didn't manifest in a split second like before.

As if gathering more mana than it had ever before, the runes glowed for a couple of seconds longer than they previously did before the spell manifested.

Unknown to Kayn besides feeling the unbelievably large amount of mana, a large spear of ice, one that was twice as tall as Kayn and as wide as him, manifested a few meters above the ice dome.

With its size, the ice spear would pierce through the whole ice dome, skewering Kayn from head to toe and freezing him in a matter of seconds.

He wouldn't even be able to try to shoot fireballs to unfreeze himself, as his head would be split open the second the ice spear pierced him.

The ice spear started descending down. The ice demon just looked at it with emotionless eyes as it was about to eat another soul.

But before the ice spear could pierce open the ice dome and skewer the creature inside, a large explosion came from inside the dome, breaking the dome into pieces as it revealed the demon inside it.

A demon with four arms, wings, long claws, and a snake tail, having a charred face and torso from the explosion that had occurred.

And the burnt demon didn't just stand there, agonizing in pain. The demon's two arms continued moving frantically as he drew another set of runes.

When the explosion occurred and the frozen dome was destroyed, the second spell manifested as a large, dark circle that appeared in front of the demon.

The demon wasted no time as he ran through the circle, his muscles empowered with mana, enhancing his strength to double what it used to be.

With his newfound power, the four-armed demon kicked his feet and spread his wings open, his head turned, eyes still staring at the ice demon.

But instead of flying towards the ice demon, the four-armed demon ran in the opposite direction, away from the ice demon.

He flapped his wings as strongly as he could, bringing him away from the range of the ice demon.

The ice demon looked at its prey running away, still with an emotionless face. He just stood there, doing nothing other than lowering his palms and staring at the flying demon with its tail tucked between its legs.
