If only I could give him a good slap, Johanna thought as she watched Dandelion fidget nervously like a child caught smuggling a stray dog home. She found his fluttering eyelashes maddening.
Snapping back to reality, Johanna turned to Liliette. “My lady, I find it highly unlikely the steward truly allowed this. I apologize for speaking so bluntly about your friend, but he is still considered a criminal. He should not be here.”
Dandelion’s face twisted with frustration. “I’m not lying! He really did give permission!” he exclaimed.
“Dame Johanna,” Liliette interrupted. Although momentarily surprised by her brother’s outburst, she quickly regained her composure. “Could you please leave us for a moment? Just ten— no, five minutes.”
