Chapter 298 - Chapter 298: Why Does This Sand Still Hold Power?!

Watching Mirai Uchiha save her from Gaara, Temari helplessly dropped to her knees.

As Gaara's older sister, she understood his personality all too well. If it weren't for the man standing before her, Gaara really would have killed her just now!

"You... Who... who are you?!"

Hearing Temari's question, Mirai Uchiha pulled down the mask covering his face.

"Mirai Uchiha."

"Eh?!" Temari froze in place. After a short pause, she stuttered out, "Mi-Mi-Mirai... Mirai Uchiha?!"

Mirai Uchiha replied calmly, "Indeed. No one in the ninja world would dare to impersonate me."

Upon hearing this, Temari immediately prostrated herself on the ground, trembling uncontrollably.

She knew many things about Mirai Uchiha and understood just how terrifying he truly was. Her father had opposed him many times—and had even been killed by him once. It was Lady Chiyo who sacrificed her own life to save their father.

Now, Mirai Uchiha had become the supreme Emperor of the Shen Nation, while she was merely an orphan at the very bottom rung of Sunagakure. One word from him could send her and her brothers into irreversible ruin!

Seeing Temari's terrified expression, Mirai Uchiha could only explain again, "You don't need to be so afraid. I mean no harm."

In response to Mirai Uchiha's kindness, Temari finally raised her head. "Understood, Lord Mirai."

After calming Temari's emotions, Mirai Uchiha turned his gaze toward Gaara.

Activating his ocular power, Shukaku's chakra began transferring into his body. The process lasted only a brief moment before Shukaku was sealed within Mirai Uchiha.

Meanwhile, Gaara had lost the Tailed Beast's power and showed no signs of life.

Seeing this, Temari burst into tears of despair.

So it had come to this after all.

Those words from Mirai Uchiha earlier had clearly been lies meant to deceive her!

Sensing the change in Temari's expression, Mirai Uchiha explained, "Back then, even Rasa was resurrected after death. Naturally, Gaara can be revived as well. Would you really think I'm incapable of doing what Lady Chiyo accomplished?"

Upon hearing this, Temari paused in surprise.

That made sense. If Lady Chiyo could do it, there was absolutely no reason why this person standing before her couldn't. Moreover, given this man's identity and strength, if he truly wanted to kill Gaara, there'd be no need whatsoever to trick them.

Temari quickly pieced it together. Hope flared in her chest again.

Mirai Uchiha activated [Ame-no-Koyaneko-no-Kami], restoring Gaara's body to its state before the tailed beast was extracted. Gaara's aura reappeared once again.

Taking advantage of the moment while Gaara was recovering, Mirai asked, "It seems like you two haven't been living very well recently?"

Temari remained silent for a moment before nodding softly and replying, "Yes."

"When our father became Kazekage, he pushed for waging war on Konoha, inflicting heavy losses on the village."

"Later, to further consolidate his power, he even conspired with ninja of the Mist Village to attack the village's hero…"

"Therefore, after his death, the villagers regarded my brothers and me as stains upon the village."

"If it wasn't for Lady Pakura's orders forbidding anyone from harming us, we probably would've died already."

After hearing Temari's explanation, Mirai nodded.

At that time, Rasa had harmed Pakura so severely—yet she still spared Temari and the others. That alone was already proof of incredible mercy.

Just then, Gaara also slowly regained consciousness.

"I… The monster inside me—is it gone now?"

Gaara stared anxiously at Mirai and asked.

Mirai nodded. "That's right. You'll never have to endure the One-Tail's torment again."

"Now, go ahead and enjoy a peaceful night's sleep, Gaara."

Upon hearing Mirai's words, excitement flashed across Gaara's face.

Immediately afterward, he picked up a Senbon from the messy ground and suddenly thrust it toward his own chest.

Puff!

A pile of sand blocked Gaara's chest, firmly shielding his body behind it.

Seeing this scene unfold, Gaara froze momentarily, then his expression turned furiously angry: "What is going on? Why are these annoying sands still here?!"

He glared coldly at Mirai. "You said the monster inside me was gone, didn't you?"

"You're lying to me!!!"

Gaara's attitude startled Temari, who quickly scolded him, "Gaara! Show some respect when speaking to Lord Mirai!"

This brat really has no sense of boundaries.

Doesn't he realize how terrifying this man is?

Mirai gently patted Temari's shoulder, signaling her not to be afraid.

Gaara's mind clearly wasn't entirely stable—he wouldn't normally lose his temper over something this trivial.

Then he calmly replied to Gaara, "I'm not lying. The monster within your body truly has been sealed into my own body."

Gaara pointed at the sand in front of him and coldly demanded, "Then what about this?"

"Why does it still exist?!"

Facing Gaara's questioning, Mirai simply replied, "Because this sand isn't the monster's power within you."

Upon hearing this explanation, both Gaara and Temari were stunned into silence.

"What could this possibly mean?"

Struggling to regain his footing, Gaara looked at Mirai Uchiha and asked, "How is this possible? If it wasn't the monster's power, why would the sand protect me?"

Mirai Uchiha countered, "Exactly, if this was the monster's power inside you, why would it want to protect you?"

At those words, Gaara once again froze.

Seeing this, Mirai Uchiha continued, "You should at least somewhat understand the monster's thoughts. Shouldn't it be longing for your death instead?"

"Why would it use its own strength to protect you from harm?"

For a moment, Gaara seemed visibly shaken.

It was something he had never truly considered before.

He only knew that the monster within him could control sand, so naturally he assumed the sand protecting him came from the monster inside his body.

But now, after hearing Mirai Uchiha's words, Gaara suddenly felt confused.

Just as Mirai Uchiha had said, the monster within him constantly tormented him, wishing nothing more than for him to die sooner.

How then could such a monster use its strength to protect his body?

It wasn't just Gaara who was puzzled; even Temari couldn't figure it out.

Gazing quizzically at Mirai Uchiha, she asked, "Master Mirai, do you know what's going on with the sand?"

"Why would they willingly protect Gaara?"

Mirai Uchiha glanced at Temari, then fixed his gaze on Gaara, speaking slowly and clearly, "Because the power of the sand comes from your mother."

"Gaara, you've always been surrounded by love—real love."
