Chapter 31 - Verdantia, Now

Once known as the Kingdom of Light.

Now?

A hollow husk.

The spires of black stone still pierced the sky — but the flame that once guarded them was gone.

In the absence of the Demon King, Ashura rose like rot through the cracks.

He came not to rebuild, but to devour.

🏴‍☠️ Ashura's Rule

Every vault opened.Every artifact stolen.Every noble executed or enslaved.Even the Demon King's personal treasury — filled with priceless magic, ancient relics, forbidden tomes — plundered.

He took it all.

And he left nothing.

The cities that once stood as monuments to fear and power — now burned.

🔗 The People's Suffering

The people, once terrified under the Demon King, now begged for the past.

There was no food.No homes.No peace.No sleep.

The healthy were sent to work in endless mines. The weak were discarded into the street like broken tools.Children cried into stone walls, not even strong enough to scream anymore.

Disease spread.Hope died.

😔 The Realization

And in the dirt… whispers began.

"He tortured us… but he kept us fed."

"He ruled with terror… but there was order."

"He was a monster… but never a thief."

A man collapsed in the gutter, his ribs showing through his skin.

He looked at the sky and muttered:

"We… made him into this."

"We took a child. Burned him. Starved him. Called him a demon…"

"And when he became what we feared… we sealed him."

A woman wept beside a ruined well.

"He was the curse we deserved. And we sent him away."

🏛 Flashbacks — Their Guilt

One by one, the memories returned:

A noble spitting on a nameless boy dragged through the halls.

A servant laughing as the child screamed in chains.

A priest whispering that death would be mercy for something like that.

They saw it now.

Clearer than ever.

"He was never born evil. We shaped him."

And now Verdantia reaped what it had sown.

👑 The Enslaved King and Queen

Beneath the shattered palace — the former King and Queen of Verdantia toiled like animals.

Chains on their ankles.Rotten food in their bowls.Eyes blank, bodies trembling.

They had once ruled the most glorious kingdom in the world.

Now?

Not even guards bothered to look at them.

🧭 The Missing Brother

Far beyond the walls, hidden in the forest…

A shadow moved.

The Demon King's brother — once silent, once complicit — now a ghost.

After the sealing, he had vanished.

Not from fear.

From shame.

"I helped put chains on my own blood."

He had returned too late.

He watched from the cliffs as Ashura took over — saw the cities fall, the temples burn.

He wanted to stop it.

But how could he?

He couldn't even stop what he had already done.

So he escaped.

👸 The Hidden Sister

And far away, beyond the reach of flames or chains — a name stirred.

One never spoken.

A girl hidden the day the throne fell.

When the Demon King overthrew his parents, the royal guards used the chaos to smuggle the youngest princess out.

He had seen her once — just once — as a child in passing.

She had never visited him.

He never thought of her again.

And so, in his vengeance, he spared no thought.

But she lived.

And now…

A ghost of the Verdant bloodline.

Unknown to the world.

Unknown… to him.
