Chapter 9 - Chapter 1

Flawed we might be, but we are at our strongest only when we are together.

POV SHIBA TATSUYA

It most certainly can be counted as one of the very unpleasant moments that I have ever experienced in my entire life. This moment can score as high as in the top hundreds, which is quite despicable considering the kind of life that I have led till now.

I don't believe that I have any need to attend a highschool alongside some half-assed brats who haven't even seen blood in real life. However, no matter how much I want to turn back and go he, this might prove to be a chance fir me to lead a normal life. For all of us, me and my brothers.

This experience is becoming even more tormenting for me seeing as I have arrived here earlier than I expected to. I envy my younger brothers for they have been able to do something that I had been longing to do. They totally ditched the First High's entrance ceremony.

I have been here for quite some time now. And I can overhear the conversations that these kids are having. Quite frankly they have learned the art of discrimination at such a young age. Their attempted whispers directed at me give me a complete account of the social standing that I am going to have in this place.

Not caring about what else they want to indulge themselves in, I walked into the auditorium. And, at the very first sight I can glimpse at the difference that is between the course 1 and course 2 students. Otherwise referred to as Blooms and Weeds.

All students might appear to be equal from an outsider's point of view, but if they chose to pay even a sliver of their attention, even they will be able to tell the difference between the two courses. From what I acknowledge, this is not equality.

If I were to go on the stage this very moment and pull out a gun out of my blazer, I am sure that everyone here will be scared equally. That is what I believe equality is. Death, darkness and destruction are the only things that can truly make one person equal to another.

But right now I have no intention of doing that. So, I take a seat on the last half of the sitting section in the auditorium. The ceremony is about to begin. All I can do is sigh at the realization that I am going to be bored even more.

The train of my thoughts was interrupted by a female student.

"Excuse me, is this seat open?"

Without paying any mind to her. I said, "Don't mind me."

The girl bowed her head, thanked him, and sat down. She was then followed by a group of girls. Now, this is certainly going to be a bother.

"My name is Mizuki Shibata. Pleased to meet you," came the unexpected self-introduction. The girl who introduced herself didn't look much athletic. But she must have had something to back herself up as she was going to attend the First High. Both her tone and appearance were timid.

"Tatsuya Shiba. Pleased to meet you too," I replied in as much moderation as I could.

Looking at her glasses …pushion radiation sensitivity, is it?

"I'm Erika Chiba. Nice to meet you, Shiba!"

"Same here."

Chiba... Definitely one of the numbers, a branch family. Even the family name Shibata struck him as familiar. However, that one is not one of the numbers, I am sure of that.

"We have Shiba, Shibata, and Chiba, right? It's kind of like a pun, isn't it? I mean, not exactly, but still."

"…I see."

From her demenour, it is easy to see that she is a free-spirited girl. Maybe a bit too much of that.

For some reason I believe that this girl is going to be troublesome to handle. So, instead of keeping the conversation going, I stayed silent.

The entrance ceremony began with an address given by the student representative for the year. Her name Tsukuba Miyuki. She is related to the Yotsuba of Lab Four directly, however that is not for the outsiders to know. Her magic capabilities seemed to be much better than average, on par with grown up combat magicians. She is worthy enough of being paid mind to.

I chose not to pay any kind of attention to the rest of the ceremony. After that was the time for the ID card distribution. This is what will signify the class that a person will be attending for the entirety of his highschool life.

THIRD PERSON POV

The classes in which a student will be studying were not decided at the time of the enrollment. It can be seen as a random procedure, however, the difference between the two courses will remain the same. But not much difference is seen in the classes that belong to one particular course. The dilemma of all the classes from E to H was going to be the same, they won't have any instructor during their entire highschool life.

The students were requested to bring their normal IDs and upon those IDs their new school identity will be printed. And, that will determine the class that they will attend.

Usually this entire process for a student can be completed in mere single digit of seconds, but for some reason, it was taking longer than expected. And, the voices of argument could be heard from the spot where a computer window under the supervision of the faculty members was assigning students their new IDs.

A calm and young voice could be heard.

"As I said, I am their legal guardian. So, I have full right to be here in their stead under certain circumstances. And, this will just happen to be one of those situations.", Tatsuya Shiba stated.

" But you are the same age as them. We can't hand over one's ID to someone else just like that." A faculty member stated in a gritting voice. Maybe the day was not going too well for the fellow.

"However, you still won't deny that I am their legal guardian. Therefore, I am acting within my bounds. So, please do exactly what you are supposed to do." And, the patience of the youth was also wearing thin with each passing second.

The commotion drew the attention of a certain group of students.

"Is there a way we could be of help to you?", came a cheerful voice. The girl them followed, " I am Mayumi Saegusa, the current Student Council President. I would be glad to be of help to you."

Listening to the young lady, the faculty member calmed down a bit and explained the entire situation.

The girl calmly accessed the situation and said, "You aren't wrong. However, it will be a breach of etiquettes. But, it can still be done if you can give a good enough explanation."

Tatsuya maintained his calm demenour dspite being in presence of one of the Numbers. "I seriously doubt that I am in the worth here. This entire commotion is of no basis. As stated, you are obligated to provide me with their student IDs as I am their guardian. Nothing more, nothing less." The boy said without paying any mind to the new addition of spectators.

The girl didn't give any specific reaction to the counter statement. But one of the bystanders didn't think the same way.

"Hey, that is no way you should be talking to the Council President.", said an half-enraged voice.

Even now, Tatsuya paid no mind to the new guy. " And, who will you be?"

"Hattori Gyoubu-Shoujo Hanzou, the vice-president of the student council. And, the way you are talking to president is not the way you should be conversing to your senior."

Seemed like the boy entering the fray like like this was unexpected even for the council president. She intermediated the situation and calmed the boy down.

"I apologize if my behavior implied any kind of disrespect to you. I am just saying that this situation is nothing bit a waste of time for all of us. And, of no reasonable grounds."

"Well, it is as you say. I dont see any problem in you having the IDs of your brothers, however, you will need to report to the student council room with your siblings the next time you enter the school premises.", said the girl.

Neither, Tatsuya nor the faculty member objected to the solution. Besides, this problem, by extension, was meant to be under the jurisdiction of the student council.

" I am thankful for your understanding", said Tatsuya.

Without any further delay, the IDs for three were printed and the procedure kept carrying on for the rest of students.
