The market lane didn't look like much from the cart.
While I had been told that things had taken a long time to be built back up after the first Apocalypse to hit the Devil's Playground, and there hadn't been any big places to buy your supplies, the market in front of me was just… small.
The servants in the palace whispered about the market like it was THE place to be. But as far as I could see, it was just frost ground into stone and smoke rising thin from stalls that had burned their morning fires too fast.
However the moment my feet touched the dirt, Lin Wei shifted in my arms, his head lifting as if he could smell something better than fear in the air.
That, alone, was enough of a reason to be here.
