Chapter 164: Only the Younger Generation?
"Your Young Mistress?"
Li Xun was utterly surprised. He reached out to take the envelope and glanced at the cover, which had only three characters written on it:
"To my benefactor."
"Interesting," Li Xun said softly.
The handwriting was delicate and graceful—clearly written by a woman. But no matter how long he thought about it, he couldn't figure out which of the women he had invested in had the power to pull something like this off.
Someone who could send a powerful cultivator at the Divine Palace Realm to secretly infiltrate Jade Capital City, the capital of the Great Chu Dynasty, just to deliver a letter to him.
Qin Xueyi?
She might have that kind of power.
After all, as someone who had been reincarnated, with foresight and knowledge of future events, it wasn't impossible for her to secretly control a faction. But the key issue was—they could communicate through jade tokens.
There was no need to rely on something as old-fashioned as letter delivery.
The Third Princess of the Great Zhou Empire?
Also unlikely, and Li Xun dismissed that thought quickly. He didn't think he had that deep of a relationship with her—it was only a single Enlightenment Pill between them, after all.
"My Young Mistress said, once you read the letter, everything will become clear," the old man said calmly, as if sensing Li Xun's confusion.
Rip—
Li Xun tore open the envelope and read its contents. As his eyes moved over the page, his expression gradually became strange. A moment later, he exhaled deeply.
"So it's her."
"That little girl from back then… now she's become a princess of the Great Chu Dynasty?"
"Heh."
Li Xun let out a bitter laugh and murmured, "I should've figured it out sooner. Her name is Chu Lingyue… Isn't Chu the royal surname of the Great Chu Dynasty?"
He hadn't thought of it before, mainly because the little girl he met in Panshi City felt too far removed from the powerful Great Chu Dynasty. The two seemed completely unrelated—worlds apart.
Who would've thought that someone with the same surname, living tens of millions of miles away, would actually be a member of the royal family?
Even more unexpected is that who would've thought that a noble princess of the Great Chu Dynasty would be just an ordinary person?
Someone who even… nearly became a beggar on the streets?
"You've read the letter. If you wish to leave, I can help you."
The old man spoke softly, "But, after observing your strength, I believe my Young Mistress may have worried too much. You are fully capable of defeating all the younger generations of the Great Chu Dynasty!"
"No need to leave. Even if I leave Jade Capital City, I won't be leaving the territory of the Great Chu Dynasty any time soon."
Li Xun shook his head and flicked the letter in his hand, turning it into a cloud of powder.
The letter had been brief. Chu Lingyue first expressed her gratitude for the kindness Li Xun had shown her in the past, then warned him that there was a conspiracy behind the supreme-grade Dao Weapon.
She advised him to leave the Great Chu Dynasty as soon as possible, to avoid losing his life over it.
"As expected of the Holy Son of Profound Sun Sect,"
The old man smiled slightly and continued, "If you accept the marquis title that the Great Chu Dynasty is conferring on you tomorrow, nothing will happen."
"But if you reject the title and only take the supreme-grade Dao Weapon, you'll become the target of every young cultivator in the Great Chu Dynasty."
"Only the younger generation?"
Li Xun raised an eyebrow, a faint smile tugging at his lips.
He had already prepared for the worst—expecting even Saints to make a move.
But to hear that only the younger generation would be coming after him?
Now that was unexpected.
Had he known earlier, he would've come to the Great Chu Dynasty from the very start.
After all, if it's only the younger generation, then at most they'll be at the Life and Death Realm. No matter how many of them come, he has nothing to fear.
"So that's how it is… The Great Chu Dynasty wants to use me as a whetstone, huh?" Li Xun said with a mocking tone.
"Indeed," the old man nodded.
"But that doesn't rule out the possibility of stronger cultivators making a move."
He gave a thoughtful nod, then shook his head and said, "The death of Fa Zhao is still a secret to most of the Great Chu Dynasty. But to a select few, it's not."
"They all know Fa Zhao was merely an external avatar of the Champion Marquis. And the reason they threw out that supreme-grade Dao Weapon was simply to lure you here."
"Because…"
The old man paused, then gave Li Xun a deep look and continued:
"You are the only prodigy in history to have passed through the ten lightning calamities tribulation."
"If you choose to join the Great Chu Dynasty, then that supreme-grade Dao Weapon will be yours—no one can take it away."
"But if you refuse, then it will belong to the strongest, and whether you'll be able to leave the Great Chu Dynasty with it is a complete unknown."
"I just don't understand," the old man sighed, "With your temperament, it doesn't seem like you'd risk your life for just one Dao weapon…"
"To me, the Great Chu Dynasty was always a place I'd have to come to eventually," Li Xun replied with a calm smile.
"And what I came here for… doesn't really matter anymore."
The Indestructible Golden Body was something he had to obtain, no matter what.
And to get it, he'd have to enter the Great Chu Dynasty sooner or later.
Since he was already here, grabbing a supreme-grade Dao Weapon on the way was just a bonus.
After all, in someone else's hands, a Dao weapon is just a Dao weapon.
A Saint technique is just a Saint technique.
But in his hands—
A Dao weapon might evolve into a Sacred Weapon.
A Saint technique might transform into a Saint King one.
And that made all the difference.
"Do you know why the Great Chu Dynasty—"
The old man started to speak, but suddenly stopped mid-sentence.
He shook his head and changed the topic:
"Would you mind giving me a communication jade token, my friend?"
"Hm?"
Li Xun looked at him, raising a brow.
Is this xianxia version of asking for your number? he thought to himself.
After a moment's thought, he produced a jade token and tossed it over.
"If anything comes up, you can use this to contact me."
"Much appreciated,"
The old man caught the jade token and put it away. He clasped his hands respectfully and said,
"My task is complete. Time to return and report to my Young Mistress."
With that, he stepped forward and vanished without a trace.
Li Xun looked in the direction the old man had disappeared.
His brow furrowed slightly as the elder's unfinished sentence echoed in his mind.
There was something hidden in those words.
But the old man had held back, clearly under strict orders not to speak further.
That made Li Xun all the more curious.
Unfortunately, with only half a sentence, he had no way of guessing what the rest might have been.
