Chapter 26 - Don’t Tell Kaien We Blew Up the Courtyard

"He's gonna kill us."

"Technically, he doesn't do that. He just sighs really hard and walks away while we panic."

— Aeyra & Aren, seconds before detonation

Scene 1: The Perfectly Bad Idea

Aeyra found Aren in the lab, surrounded by glowing orbs, blueprints, and one suspicious voidcrystal.

Aeyra: "Whatcha building?"

Aren: "A hover-bubble! It'll let us bounce without touching the ground."

Aeyra: "…Can it fly?"

Aren: "It can now."

Thirty minutes later, they were bouncing across the courtyard in a blinding ball of unstable quantum nonsense.

Aeyra: "We're legends."

Aren: "We're totally grounded."

Then it exploded.

Not deadly. Just very dramatic.

Smoke everywhere. Ash. Glitter?

Scene 2: Kaien's Reaction

Kaien walked into the courtyard holding a plate of food.

Saw the crater.

Saw the two culprits covered in soot and guilt.

He stared.

Long pause.

"...You didn't even try to hide it this time."

Aren: "We were gonna clean up before you came back."

Aeyra: "You're early. That's on you."

Kaien sighed. Deeply.

Set the plate down.

"I'll get the repair runes. You two… don't touch anything."

Aeyra: "Define 'anything.'"

Kaien: "I will Voidflame your snacks."

Scene 3: Valenya's "Discipline"

Later, Valenya lined the two up in the training hall.

"You blew up the courtyard."

Aeyra: "Just a little."

Valenya: "There's a crater."

Aren: "Technically, it's a restructured elevation layer."

Valenya stared.

Then slowly turned and walked away.

Aren (whispering): "She's not mad."

Aeyra: "She's fuming on the inside."

From the other room:

Valenya: "I can hear both of you."

Scene 4: Kaien Joins a Game (Accidentally)

Aeyra and Aren dragged Kaien into a board game called "Skyblade Duel."

He had no idea what he was doing.

Didn't read the rules.

Picked random cards.

Won every round.

Aeyra: "He's cheating."

Kaien: "I don't know what's happening."

Aren: "He's literally the final boss of siblings."

Scene 5: Olivia Laughs

Later, Olivia and Kaien sat on the roof.

Aeyra's game pieces were still glowing below.

The stars were quiet.

Olivia: "They're chaos."

Kaien: "They're mine."

Olivia: "You're terrifying, Kaien."

Kaien (deadpan): "Thank you."

She actually laughed.

Like… full, head-tilted, real laughter.

He blinked.

"Did you just…?"

"Yes. Mark the date."

"I'll get a plaque made."

And they just sat there, stars above, siblings below, and a peace they rarely got.

Final Scene: The Family Wall

Inside the Citadel was a wall they rarely visited — carved with little symbols for each Vordrakar family member.

Valenya etched a new one beside Kaien's:

🛡️ = "Protected chaos."

Kaien saw it.

Smiled.

Didn't say anything.

But that night, Aeyra woke up to find a soft new blanket tucked over her and Aren's gadget quietly repaired on the table.
