Song Wei walked up to Wen Wan, his gaze softened with a gentle smile, his voice lower and mellower than when he taught the students earlier, "Didn't I tell you to wait for me at home? Why did you come here?"
Meeting the man's gaze, Wen Wan smiled and pointed to the bamboo basket in the crook of her arm.
She had waited a long time, and if they didn't eat soon, the food would get cold.
Song Wei asked her, "Do you want to go in and sit?"
Wen Wan shook her head.
She couldn't communicate with Aunt Xie's family at all, going in would be pointless, and it would save them the trouble of having to sit with her doing nothing.
Song Wei understood, took the bamboo basket from her hand, and added, "It's windy by the river, not too warm, and there's shade from the trees; let's go there."
Wen Wan nodded and followed him towards home. When they reached the riverside, Song Wei chose a clean grassy spot where they could sit and enjoy the shade, before taking out the food from the basket.
