It wasn't supposed to be like this.

Victoria wrapped her arms tightly around herself, seated on the edge of a metal bed that creaked every time she shifted. The cell felt colder than usual, even with the sunlight barely leaking through the tiny barred window. No matter how many layers she wore, the cold always got in—like it knew what she had done.

She let out a slow breath and whispered to no one, "Any day now…"

Dan will come.

She was sure of it. Dan had promised. Not in words—but in the way he looked at her through the courtroom glass, the small nod he gave her before the guards took her away. He had always found a way to protect her before. This would be no different.

And he wouldn't let Octavia rot here either.

Victoria swallowed hard at the thought of her daughter. Her beautiful, brilliant Octavia. They were both locked away now—trapped in these concrete tombs like caged animals. What were they doing in here, while Alice walked free?
