The urban terrain of District Eight shifted with the mechanical precision of a massive clockwork mechanism.

Every sixty seconds, towering apartment complexes rotated ninety degrees on hydraulic subterranean pivots, while wide boulevards folded into narrow dead-end alleys.

"Our digital navigation maps are completely useless," Diana said, shaking her head as her holographic compass spun erratically.

"The street numbers are changing faster than the satellite feed can refresh!"

"Look at that intersection ahead," Ava noted, pointing her rifle barrel toward a four-way crossing that suddenly vanished into a solid brick wall.

"The physical geography is rewriting itself right before our eyes!"

"The system is not using modern satellite coordinates," Vasa analyzed, inspecting the glowing runic grid etched into the street curbs.

"The Surveyor is re-aligning the city along the hundred-year-old pre-Merge property deeds."
