Chapter 242 - Chapter 242 : Brothers in the Past! Teachers and Students Now!

"But Rin is already dead, and nothing can be undone!"

"If she were still here, she wouldn't want to see you like this."

"Let go, return to Konoha, and be the kind Uchiha Obito once again!"

Kakashi looked at Obito standing before him.

A heavy guilt weighed down on his chest.

All he wanted was for the Obito he once knew to come back.

But Obito had done so much—how could a few words from Kakashi redeem him now?

Obito sneered, his voice unhinged, bordering on madness: "Uchiha Obito died the moment I saw Rin die!"

"Now, Obito Uchiha lives only to create a world with Rin!"

"Anyone who tries to stop me will die!"

"Even you!"

Kakashi Hatake took a deep breath.

He had done everything he could to salvage their bond, yet here they were, broken and bitter.

It was heartbreaking—but he had to make a decision.

He looked Obito in the eyes and said firmly, "In that case, I can only follow my own path."

"The original Uchiha Obito is dead. The man standing before me is just a madman, wreaking havoc on the ninja world for his impossible fantasies."

"The only thing left for me to do is to end you."

After saying this, Kakashi—now fully recovered—stood on his own, no longer needing Might Guy's support.

Might Guy's heart ached seeing his friend so torn.

He never expected it would come to this.

All he could hope for now was Kakashi's survival.

Obito's expression remained unchanged.

With calm precision, he formed a hand seal.

Kakashi mirrored him.

After years apart, they clashed again.

Their fight echoed their early days, training side by side—ninjutsu practice turned battlefield.

Back then, they sought to improve themselves together, sharing dreams and hopes.

Now, they were sworn enemies, each fighting to kill.

Their earlier conversation stripped away any illusions.

They both understood the other was lost.

Neither hesitated.

They charged headlong at each other.

Meanwhile, Jiraiya faced the reincarnated Nagato.

This confrontation was also Jiraiya's choice.

When the reincarnated army assembled, he immediately recognized the ninja bearing the Rinnegan—the same one who had once rescued the general from the Hidden Mist Village and offered hope.

He had once believed Uzumaki Nagato would be a powerful force for peace.

After leaving the Hidden Mist Village, he heard rumors about Nagato, Yahiko, and Konan.

He had been heartened to learn that Yahiko had formed a small group to help the needy and fight crime.

But events spiraled out of control.

Jiraiya lost track of Nagato, Yahiko, and Konan's whereabouts.

Now, their first encounter was on the battlefield, where Nagato was part of the Impure World Reincarnation army.

Jiraiya thought Nagato was being controlled.

But the truth was worse—he learned Nagato himself orchestrated the attacks by Tendo Pain on Konoha.

Jiraiya struggled to accept this.

He had always believed in Nagato's goodness.

But the reality lay before him.

There was no turning away.

Questions flooded his mind.

Why had his proud disciple fallen so far?

"Nagato, what happened to you…" Jiraiya asked, voice heavy.

"Nii-san…" Nagato murmured, his eyes locking on Jiraiya's.

Jiraiya had once been the person Nagato respected most.

Nagato had embraced everything Jiraiya taught him—ninjutsu, the ideals of the ninja world.

But he soon realized Jiraiya's words were empty.

The world was dark and cruel, full of pain.

Jiraiya's teachings were a beautiful dream that didn't exist.

In reality, the strong preyed on the weak endlessly.

And after Misaki's death, Nagato's faith shattered completely.

That was how he became the current Uzumaki Nagato.

"Teacher, have you ever felt real pain?" Nagato asked coldly.

Jiraiya frowned.

Except for his appearance, this Uzumaki Nagato bore no resemblance to the boy he once knew.

It unsettled him deeply.

Before he could gather his thoughts, Nagato attacked.

"Universal Pull!"

A powerful suction force struck Jiraiya.

He was powerless to resist, being drawn helplessly toward Uzumaki Nagato.

Right before Nagato stood a black iron rod.

It was aimed directly at Jiraiya; if he were pulled in, this rod—capable of restricting the flow of chakra—would severely injure him.

They were caught in a battle that seemed impossible to avoid.

How could one fight without chakra?

Yet, as one of Konoha's legendary Sannin, Jiraiya was no ordinary shinobi.

His extensive combat experience enabled him to handle various foes.

Although unfamiliar with the full extent of the Rinnegan's power, he was quick to respond.

Pulled in by Nagato's Universal Pull, Jiraiya swiftly adjusted his trajectory midair.

Though he failed to entirely evade the black rod, the damage was minimal.

He suffered only superficial wounds.

Covering his shoulder with one hand, Jiraiya grimaced in pain.

He knew there was no room left for old feelings or past bonds.

A ninja wielding the Rinnegan was overwhelmingly powerful.

This fight allowed no mercy.

He also realized that Nagato had completely fallen to darkness.

Changing his mind seemed impossible.

With Konoha in dire straits, Jiraiya wanted this fight over quickly.

His priority was to defeat Nagato and then assist on other battlefronts.

Without hesitation, he tapped into Sage Mode, elevating himself to peak power.

"Are you serious?" Nagato sneered.

Despite facing his teacher, his heart was unshaken.

The original Nagato had long since vanished.

What remained was endless pain.

He believed only pain was real and that true empathy came from shared suffering.

Everything else—hope, peace, justice—were mere hypocritical lies.

Not worth believing.

Thus, even before his teacher, Nagato would show no mercy.

As Jiraiya entered Sage Mode, he refined his own stance and charged toward Nagato.

The long-awaited battle between master and apprentice had truly begun.

This intense confrontation was not unique to Jiraiya and Nagato.

Elsewhere, Tsunade faced her own former teacher: the Third Hokage, Sarutobi Hiruzen.

Their situation was different.

They did not exchange blows, nor was there much animosity.

The Third Hokage, resurrected by the Impure World Reincarnation technique, was bound to obey his summoner's commands.

But his consciousness remained intact.

As Konoha's Third Hokage, how could he wish harm upon his village?

This created a complex, painful tension.

While Hiruzen refused to act, Tsunade could not remain passive.

She had recently learned the heartbreaking truth: the deaths of her brother Nawaki and her lover Kato Dan were connected to her teacher, Sarutobi Hiruzen.

Her revered mentor had been involved.

The revelation shattered her.

She had countless questions burning inside, desperate to understand her teacher's motives.

Why had he done such incomprehensible things?

But when she discovered this truth, her teacher was already dead.

No opportunity remained to confront him.

Until now, when Tsunade met him again—though only the reanimated Sarutobi Hiruzen.

He was, for all intents and purposes, a dead man.

Yet his consciousness lingered.

And now, she could finally ask.

"Tsunade, long time no see," Hiruzen greeted warmly.

"I never imagined our reunion as master and disciple would be under these circumstances."

He still seemed unaware of what transpired after his death.

Seeing Tsunade, he smiled as he always had.

But Tsunade did not return the smile.

Her expression was cold, her gaze blank.

A chill ran through the Third Hokage.

He sensed something was different.

"Tsunade, what has happened to you?" he asked gently.

"I'm fine," Tsunade replied calmly.

"I just learned something, and I want to confirm it with you."

"That's all."
