Chapter 6 - progress and doomed demons

Calvin woke up in the bed of the guest bedroom, back stiff from a bad night's sleep as he sat up. It had been going good so far, he had a routine now, wake up, fight a demon, study in the library, go to sleep, repeat. He had been in the house of mystery a week now, had fought 7 demons, the deaths of two were consider brutal enough to be counted as a glory-kill, equaling out to 23 DP total, which isn't exactly a lot now that Calvin had taken a look at the shop. For instance, the total cost of the arsenal from Doom: the dark ages was about 500 DP, and what's even crazier than that is the praetor suit was worth 700 DP! That works out to about 33 demon kills per day if he wanted to be done in a week! That would of course be the average Tuesday for the DoomSlayer, but that seemed insane to Calvin, who was nothing more than a nerd less than a month ago… not to mention one of the things Calvin was most excited to get his hands on was over 1,500 DP!…

As Calvin got dressed, a loud whir sounded and Calvin saw a image of Cortana in his head. {greetings Slayer, it would appear that John is waiting for you in the living room.} The Living room? Calvin wondered, Odd, he's usually just wating in the training room, what's different about today? Calvin eventually finished and, as Cortana predicted, Constantine was waiting for him on the couch. "There you are, mate." He said, "Today's gonna be a bit different, you're gonna get your first real demon kill, your first blood!" Calvin however, seemed unimpressed. "I technically already had my first blood, didn't I?" Constantine shook his head, "that's training, it's different from a real scenario… anyway, so… I've been following this one group around, and I had suspicions that they were possessed. Turns out, they were, a bunch of demons looking to make a ritual to bring a stronger demon into London in full form, full power…" Calvin looked a bit worried about that but let it slip as Constantine led him out the house and into the taxi right outside the door, Constantine took the passenger seat and gestured towards the driver.

"This is my friend Chas, he's the best cabbie in town. Chas, this is Calvin, he's a… freind from across seas." Chas nodded at Calvin through the rear-view mirror, his intense grey eyes matching with his smooth black hair, his face remaining totally indifferent. After pleasentries, Chas drove them down into Lambeth, weaving around cars and corners until eventually stopping a block away from the location, Wordsworth books… "alright Calvin, this is your chance, stop the group from summoning their leader, and if you can't, beat the shit out of the leader as well…" After nodding, Calvin got out and walked to the store, Constantine and Chas going to watch from the building across the street. Calvin walked in, at first it appeared normal, there was no one at the register, but nothing appeared to be suspicious…. But Calvin could feel it, coming from below him, a strong energy that radiated the stench of hell. Walking behind the counter, he forced open the door and walked down the steps, beginning to hear something strange. As he reached the bottom, he turned to find the ritual taking place, several humans cloaked in red robes in the center circle, chanting. The other 6 outside the circle spotted Calvin and ran at him.

Calvin dodged, he dodged the best he could, but he wasn't sure if he should fight back, there were people trapped in those bodies as well, not just demons. One of the red-eyed possessors snuck up from behind, trying to choke Calvin out, and with the ritual nearing completion Calvin didn't have a choice. He slammed his head back, breaking the nose of the one that who had him in a chokehold, grabbing him and throwing him over his shoulder into two other possessed people. Calvin rushed towards the circle, punching and kicking any of them that tried to slow him down. But it was too late, just as Calvin reached the circle, the red light exploded, the force of which flinging him back and into the basement wall.

{Calvin, look out! That's a lvl 2 threat!}

Calvin pushed himself up only to see a large, bull-like demon with horns doing the same, muscular and powerful, glaring down at him with rage. "Who the hell are you?" It spoke, flaring its nostrils as it leaned down and launched forward, charging Calvin. "OH SHI-"

Constantine could hear the sound of battle coming from the shop, leaning against the adjacent building sign as he stood on its roof with Chas. "Think he's doing alright?" Chas spoke, scratching his head. "Probably… hopefully… anyhow, when do you think that bloody demon will get here?" As if on que, something heavy landed on the opposite side of the roof, causing cracks to spread and dust to rise, out of witch walked non other than Etrigan, the extremely yellow demon.

"Greetings from brimstone and ash, Etrigan wonders why he sees Constantine and Chas." Constantine set aside his bottle, straightening his coat. "We have it handled my yellow freind, someone inside is taking care of it as we spe-" Before Constantine could finish, he was interrupted by a loud crash as Calvin is flung out the shop, smashing into the building. Calvin himself was struggling to get up, slowly rising as the demon from before emerged from the rubble, the possessed humans trailing behind him.

The demon charged again, Calvin barely managing to get away as he activated his [speed force] and began to punch the demon. This battle continued for quite a while until the possessed swarmed Calvin, holding him down as the demon delivered blow after mighty blow to him. Trapped and beaten, Calvin was panicking, he wasn't sure of what to do… he might of had the Slayer system, but he was no DoomSlayer… he needed a olive branch, a way out, but found nothing. So as a last ditch effort, he used 20 DP to purchase a lottery ticket and hope that he was lucky… and fortunately, Lady Luck smiled on him as he too smiled at the sight of his reward….

Slowly, almost hesitantly, he activated his new skill… [spartan rage]
