Chapter 5 - Do You Even Know Me?

I've been driving for 30 minutes now. All I've been seeing are empty lots. Wow, we really are far from the city, huh? It's crazy how far we are from other people. But why though? Hmm. I'll think about that later. For now, I just want to enjoy this moment.

I think I'm getting close to the city—I'm starting to see restaurants with colorful lights. I smiled. I couldn't help but look around as I drove. Then something caught my eye. A restaurant with a giant burger sign, lit up with flashing red, blue, white, and yellow lights.

I decided to park in front of it. There were two cars there, so there must be customers inside. I got out of the car and took a deep breath. I was nervous—this was the first time in a while I'd talk to someone outside of the farm, aside from the guards and the people at home. I don't even know why I ended up here. I guess the lights attracted me. It just looked so cheerful.

I leaned against the car. Then it hit me—what was I even planning to do inside? I didn't bring any money! I touched my lips while staring at my beige flats with the black ribbon. Still thinking about what I should do.

"Are you lost?" I jumped at the voice I heard. I stepped away from the car and looked behind me, where the voice came from. A guy stood there—he kind of looked like Marco. Both his arms were covered in tattoos. Is that the trend now? Guys need to have tattooed arms? His jawline was striking, and his eyes were the same color as Andreis and Marco's—blue, like the ocean.

He walked toward me, holding a brown paper bag—I guess it had food he ordered inside? Lucky him, at least he got to order something. It's tough not having money!

"Nn-no," I stammered, touching my forehead. Ugh, why am I stuttering?! He kept walking toward me, holding the paper bag in his right hand. He reached out his left for a handshake.

"Angelo," he said.

I took his hand and shook it. "Mia," I replied, looking into his eyes. They reminded me so much of Andreis'—they were exactly the same color.

My mind was racing so much that I didn't notice I was still holding his hand.

"Oh! Sorry!" I quickly let go.

He looked at me from head to toe while smiling. How rude!

"Ugh—I should go. Nice meeting you," I said, turning to head for the driver's seat.

"W-wait! Don't go yet. Let's share the food?" he said, smiling and raising the paper bag to show it to me.

Wait—did my stomach just growl? Is that how he knew I was hungry? Ugh, so annoying! I should've just eaten the bacon earlier at breakfast.

I took a deep breath. Oh well, this is probably a one-time thing. I'm sure he'll never see me again after this, because once I get back home, I'm never getting out again.

"Are you sure? You don't even know me," I said, smiling.

He smiled back and said, "Oh, I know you."
