Xavier's POV
It began with the smallest acts of rebellion. Asking for Davina's attention more often. Delaying the letters I was supposed to send back to Rorden. Then came the bigger ones, I no longer handed Lethis Bloom to Aurora in secret.
I had thought that, by creating even the tiniest fracture in the storyline, the butterfly effect would eventually shift Davina's fate.
But the ending it led to was something I could never have foreseen.
Rorden launched an attack on Alpengard. And Davina — or more precisely, the soul trapped inside her body — refused to surrender. She took command and marched onto the battlefield to face Verelen's army.
I knew full well the scale of Verelen's military power. She had no hope of winning.
I tried to stop her. I begged her to stay.
But of course, she wouldn't listen. She was Davina.
