Very few people had ever seen the full body of a greater krayt dragon. Usually, just the appearance of its head was enough for it to swallow everything in an instant.
When its entire body rose out of the ground, not a single person present was not shaken by its sheer size.
But greater than shock was despair.
The detonator was in Amir's hand. Even though the explosives had already been swallowed, they no longer had any chance to kill this gigantic beast.
All that awaited them was to be tortured and devoured, little by little.
The hundred-meter-long greater krayt dragon stretched out its savage, majestic body and let out a soul-shaking roar—but halfway through, it suddenly looked like a scolded young beast and forcibly choked it back down, its wild roar turning into a wronged howl.
Its enormous head slowly lowered until it pressed tightly against the sand.
On top of that giant beast's head, one person stood firm with a hand braced against its horn.
"Amir!" Millisyn could not hold herself back any longer. She had been worried sick, and the moment she saw him, she ran straight toward him.
Obi-Wan and 32 both let out long breaths of relief as well. They trusted Amir, but what had just happened had been deeply alarming.
Amir released the horn. In that brief battle of wills, this only partially awakened dragon had already completely lost. Driven by fear, it had yielded under Amir's overwhelming pressure.
Of course, Amir would have preferred to communicate with it peacefully.
But he had come here to kill it in the first place. They were already enemies. Open-hearted communication had long since ceased to be possible.
So he could only use harsher methods, methods that leaned closer to the dark.
Amir felt no pressure over that. What he had used was entirely the power of the light side. The effect had come mainly from his own rather vivid imagination.
Its flesh being torn apart bit by bit, pain, despair, suffocation—everything clear and relentless, pounding against the krayt dragon's mind one wave after another, until its will collapsed completely.
This krayt dragon had already committed more than enough harm. When monsters meet something even worse, perhaps acting like the villain once in a while was not such a bad thing.
Only now, once he relaxed, did Amir realize he was injured. His arms, left hand, and legs were covered in cuts, and in some places the skin had been scraped open badly enough to expose raw flesh.
He checked the krayt dragon's emotional state once more beneath his feet. After confirming that it would not resist, Amir jumped down.
Millisyn did not even spare the giant beast a glance. She hurriedly pulled out the spare bacta spray from Amir's pack.
The spray had a higher concentration than the solution in a medbay tank, allowing it to stop pain and bleeding quickly while accelerating the body's natural recovery.
Millisyn carefully sprayed every injured part of Amir's body, washing away the grains of sand still stuck in the wounds.
Seeing the redness in Millisyn's eyes, Amir patted her head.
At that moment, the Tusken Raiders behind them were still frozen in shock, unable to understand what had happened.
Why had the berserk krayt dragon suddenly lowered itself to the ground and gone quiet?
What exactly was this blond outsider who had asked for their help?
What had he done?
They could not understand it.
And so they had no idea whether they should be cheering for having survived, or doing something else entirely.
So all they could do was stand there in a daze.
Thankfully, Chaihoun came running over.
"Amir! You're not dead… what is this?" Chaihoun's voice trembled as he stared at the giant dragon lying submissively before them. It was impossible to tell whether he was frightened or thrilled.
"It swallowed the explosives. If it doesn't want to die, then for now it has no choice but to listen to me." Amir smiled faintly. The spray had worked quickly, and his wounds no longer hurt much.
"Th-this, this, this… I…!" Chaihoun was practically incoherent, standing close to the krayt dragon's body, not knowing where to put his hands.
"You'd better not touch it yet. It's still unstable right now," Amir warned. He was afraid this fanatic might throw himself at the beast in excitement and lose the life Amir had just helped save.
"R-right, right. Fine." Chaihoun stood nearby, staring at the krayt dragon's body in fascination.
"Where did you go just now, Amir?" Millisyn asked, pouting.
Amir patted the giant beast behind him on the head and said, "Just took a little trip underground with it."
By then, Obi-Wan and 32 had also come over.
"Well, this is the first time I've ever seen a creature like this from so close up. Nicely done, my apprentice."
Millisyn bared her little tiger teeth and glared at the krayt dragon's small eye, then suddenly rushed over and kicked it once before turning away and folding her arms over her chest.
"Come on. I'll take you for a ride." Amir picked up the still-annoyed Millisyn, jumped back onto the krayt dragon's head, steadied himself with a hand on its horn, and sent his will into it again.
Under coercion, the wronged krayt dragon began gliding along the ground, its five pairs of powerful legs moving rapidly like fins in water.
Very soon, it shot out of the valley and raced even faster toward the deeper desert.
With bright sunlight above and hot wind rushing straight into his face, Amir found himself enjoying the strangely exhilarating experience.
Millisyn's mood improved instantly too. Hugging the dragon's horn, she laughed loudly.
After a long while, the greater krayt dragon gradually slowed down.
Ahead of them, half-buried in the sand, lay a skeleton over a hundred meters long.
That was what had made the greater krayt dragon slow.
From its emotions, Amir sensed remembrance, anger, and fear.
Puzzled, Amir spent a long time communicating with it through the Force, until at last he pieced together the reason.
Those bones had belonged to its mother.
In this region of the desert, there was another krayt dragon—older, stronger. When this greater krayt dragon had still been young, that other dragon had killed the mother that had protected it.
A territorial struggle. Old hatred and new.
This greater krayt dragon had often come here to fight the other one.
But the two dragons had always been evenly matched.
Amir thought for a while, then used an ability he had not touched in a very long time.
Shared perception.
Back on Gudrian, in the dense fog among the mountain ridges, when Yunling had lost its sonic signals, it had once received Amir's shared perception.
Under the special vision granted by the Force, everything around them became clear at its essence.
It was like observing a lower world from a higher-dimensional perspective, every movement laid bare.
Knowledge and patterns began to flow into the mind.
For any living creature with even a little intelligence, it was an extraordinarily precious experience. It filled them with a confidence they had never known before.
The greater krayt dragon kept twisting its head, as though adapting to the new sensation. It let out an excited roar at Amir.
"Let's go challenge it," Amir said with a smile, patting the greater krayt dragon's horn.
"Challenge who?!" Millisyn asked.
"The other dragon here."
"Are dragons always bad?" Millisyn asked.
"Not necessarily toward us," Amir said.
"Then why are we challenging it?"
"But toward us, they definitely won't be good."
Krayt dragons attacked settlers and travelers every year in large numbers. No one had ever heard of them helping anyone.
Hearing Amir's answer, Millisyn laughed too. She patted the greater krayt dragon on the head and shouted, "Then go challenge it, Big Yellow!"
Just like that, Millisyn gave the greater krayt dragon a name of her own.
Amir did not care to object.
Big Yellow had no way to object.
Fortunately, Big Yellow could not understand Millisyn's language.
With a thunderous roar, a huge wave of sound burst from Big Yellow's mouth and rolled across the sands ahead, making even the grains beneath them vibrate.
In less than a moment, at the far edge of Amir's vision, a rising gray line was already racing toward them.
