Axel had zero intention of laying his real feelings out on the table for the commander.
There was no universe where he would willingly enlist in the military, but explaining his actual reasons would only drag out a conversation he wanted no part of.
Instead, he kept his expression perfectly smooth and offered a quiet, effortless excuse.
"Jayvaughn won't let me join," Axel said, keeping his tone light and passive.
Commander Luke immediately frowned, his brows knitting together in genuine disapproval as he turned to face Axel. "Do you really let Jayvaughn decide what you can and can't do with your life?"
Axel nodded his head, his expression dead serious. "I believe Jay can never lead me astray, so I always listen to what he says."
