After the heavy apartment door clicked shut, silencing the cheerful, drunken chatter of their departing friends, Jayvaughn looked down at Axel, who was a warm, floppy weight in his arms.
Axel was clinging to Jayvaughn's neck, giggling incoherently, his usual sharp edges softened completely by the wine. Jayvaughn carefully carried him away from the living room, heading straight toward the relative quiet of the main bedroom. He gently laid Axel onto the plush duvet, then took a moment to assess the situation.
