Chapter 10 - The ability 2

Keira's POV

Control a werewolf? Of course I had no idea how to do that. But that could be one of the expectations of witches I had no idea of.

I subtly glanced at the stash of books I had taken along wishing I could just sit and read through them and find something on that.

But how could I, when the Prince's gaze was fixed on me as he awaited an answer.

Slowly, I walked closer to him and whispered back, "Not now anyways I need some spells from my book" I lied and he nodded.

"Sean , tie him up, he might actually serve us for something" the prince said and immediately Sean tackled the coach man who was more than ready to fight back but before he could a firm cord had tied his hand to his back and his tongue down.

Sean was lucky. This creature was a low grade werewolf and couldn't survive a fight from both men. Which is surely why he retained his human form and didn't fight back

Now as to how I know all that, well books I guess.

"We'll work by the river soon, rest up" Aaron said as he assisted Sean to set up camp.

Sure, he ordered almost everyone around, should be royal DNA, but with Sean, he was so down to earth in assisting him. It was admirable.

I also noticed Sean glancing over at me from time to time. Well I could not also pretend not to know why.

The prince must have told him I was a witch, and humans seemed particularly scared of witches.

Author's POV

Later that evening, with the camp fully set and the moon fully out, Aaron and Keira set out to the west side of the lake, deeper into the forest.

"Have you taken all you need?" Aaron said as he led her down the cleared path.

"I believe so." Keira added as she dragged behind "Are we still far from there" she added as she couldn't feel her feet anymore from walking. Keira wasn't used to long walks.

"Avoid talking you're wasting energy" Aaron said without turning back to look at her.

Keira pulled her lips as she sighed and murmured loudly, "You spoke to me first" to which Aaron turned a deaf ear to.

After a long walk, they finally reached a small field with low grass still by the lake. Aaron set two cloths down face to face and sat on one gesturing for Keira to take the other.

And then the atmosphere suddenly turned denser. Keira felt pressured as she had never had to display her skills to another person.

"Feel free. Just show me what you can do" Aaron said and she nodded.

She picked up a book and started flipping through pages. Then she smiled when she came to a certain page and set it down. She then searched her bag and brought out a knife and a vial.

Aaron remained fixed on what she was doing.

Then suddenly, she lifted the knife and tore a deep wound into her hand.

And for the first time since the day he met her, and probably even before. Aaron was so startled he couldn't move.

She placed her hand over the vial to collect her blood while the other hand picked out some spices from her bag.

With the vial full, she held her wrist before speaking,

"I'm about to use the healing spell. I had initially learned it with potions, but I learned the chant recently." She looked up to Aaron who didn't speak. Then closing her eyes and putting the other hand over the wounded one, she began singing. Aaron recognized the chant she used on him. Then suddenly a green sphere formed around the hand and he watched the flesh rebuild itself.

When she was done, she picked up the vial and set it aside picking up the spices and checking the labels as she laid it down.

"I've mastered only a few spells, mostly to heal as I grew up in the clinic." She turned a good amount of the spices into the vial and set it down. "This is a anesthesia I'm preparing. When the wound is too deep, its advisable to prepare the anesthesia and administer it to reduce the pain before beginning the healing chant."

"Do you always use your blood?" Aaron asked.

"Yes." She said "So I can't produce a good quantity of it."

"Hummm" he dragged as his brows furrowed.

"There are other chants I'm still learning....." she started but was cut off quickly when Aaron picked the same knife up and tore an even deeper wound into his arm.

"What are you doing?" she screamed as she bolted up

"If we are using human bodies as experiments, I'd be happy to join you." He said "So, let's test the anesthesia and the healing chant one more time." He added.

"Okay" she said quickly picking up the potion and pouring it on the wound. "How do you feel?" Keira curiously asked.

"It actually works. It almost feels painless" he said and she smiled almost confusing Aaron.

Keira then did the healing chant and healed his wound.

Then she packed up the rest of the things.

"That's all?" Aaron asked

"Well I'm still learning other spells. I haven't got to practice them yet" she said and he nodded picking up her spell book.

"Let's head back for now" he said as he stood up and wrapped the cloth he had laid down.

Then they walked back very quietly to the camp.

Like two strangers who had never said a word to each other.
