Angela blinked and shook her head. "No, she won't come. I know Grace… she doesn't care about these things. I have invited her for parents' day many times in my previous school and she never came. She was always busy with one thing or the other."
"She must have been a very busy person then," Alex said, not sure what else to say. He could see the pain in her eyes. Her mother was never there when she wanted her to be.
"I wish she was," Angela chuckled painfully, looking away. The tears gathering in her eyes threatened to fall. "My mother won't come, and when she does, trust me… she is going to bring trouble with her, so it's better I don't tell her about tomorrow. Besides, there's no way I could contact her. I don't even have her phone number."
"It's alright," Stales said softly, placing his hand gently on her arm. He didn't know what to say or do to make her feel better. "I don't know why, but you don't deserve everything you went through. No child does."
