Chapter 32 - Chapter 12: Power of Gluttony (Part 3)

This monster has a bit of intelligence; it attacks lone normal people but runs when encountering strong enemies.

Severus struck its body heavily with a shield, cutting off the monster's retreat.

Hit!

Duncan shot an arrow into the ghoul's head. The arrow almost pierced through its skull, and the monster's long health bar dropped to its bottom. The crooked body covered in black fur fell to the ground, twitching violently.

Severus, seeing the scene, cautiously raised his shield as he approached, glancing at Duncan.

That man.

He had only one request when offering to help, which was to deliver the final strike to the monster himself.

Frankish Throwing Axe.

Headshot!

Duncan swung the Frankish throwing axe with a fierce chop, almost splitting the ghoul's head in two. A puddle of foul-smelling murky fluid oozed out, with a small yellow lump resembling fat among it.

Hiss.

This man is impressive.

Severus's pupils narrowed slightly. Although the opponent was using a Frankish throwing axe, a lightweight short-handled axe, the posture with which he executed the chop reminded him involuntarily of the Gauls' berserkers. The Barbarian regions were most skilled with swords and axes, with axe techniques being the most fierce and domineering. The iconic move of the Barbarian berserker was a fierce strike with a two-handed axe that chopped off the enemy's head.

In early battles against the Imperial army, because the Imperial legions' armor was thick and sturdy, the Barbarians relied on axes for armor piercing.

Moreover, as they settled in the forests of Great Germania, axes were used daily for felling trees, so a large part of the elite infantry of the Barbarians at the time were skilled in using war axes.

These elite infantry, apart from being fragile, disobedient, and prone to charging without orders, were top-tier infantry forces of that time in every aspect.

Later, imperial military reforms were enacted.

Constantine I incorporated Barbarians into the Imperial legions, restructuring the army by establishing a border defense army and a field army. Foreign Barbarian mercenaries were also formed, resulting in some Imperial forces featuring fierce warriors adept at using war axes.

Duncan's strike directly led the Druid in front of him to label him as a 'Barbarian warrior'.

Of course.

Currently, his basic combat form is largely about chopping, hacking, and stabbing effectively, still somewhat distant from being a true veteran Barbarian. However, he often carries a Frankish throwing axe, meaning he's often mistaken for a Frankish Barbarian.

After all, among the various Barbarians, only the Franks could throw axes with accuracy.

Subject 1 is a border farmer.

If we were to discuss bloodlines, probably only the Crow Queen - Triss, has a relatively pure Roman-Greek lineage here. Severus also hails from Gaulish Barbarian backgrounds.

"An expert!"

Severus was now convinced that Duncan was no ordinary individual.

A faint glow appeared.

In the projected image, a faint glow on the ghoul's body merged with Subject 1.

——"Gluttony [Special Ability]: You can eat several days' worth of food in one go. Your digestive ability drastically improves, and your stomach transforms into a supernatural form. You can slowly increase your life limit through eating and eventually achieve the tenacious vitality equivalent to a one-star supernatural creature."

A great harvest indeed.

Duncan had claimed many heads, but only the Barbarian berserker had given him the 'Robust' talent, slightly increasing his life limit.

This ability granted from killing a supernatural creature is clearly a higher tier.

"What if I slay a dragon?"

"In the Law of Cause and Effect projection, it shows that there's a dragon in Iceland, and it already took out me and Triss."

After acquiring the special ability 'Gluttony' from the ghoul, Duncan knew the path for his next strength enhancement.

Humans, as enemies, mainly offer combat techniques.

Only by slaying supernatural creatures can he gain a variety of special abilities.

"Why the Middle Ages?"

"If it were the Mythical Era, I'd be taking off by now!"

Of course, one might also die extremely quickly in the Mythical Era.
