Chapter 30 - Chapter 30: Laboratory 1

"Mission accomplished!"

"Authority Level increased! Part of the database has been unlocked!"

At this moment, Su Ziyu felt a bit dazed hiding behind the bunker. The terrifying explosion almost knocked him out, and the others should be about the same. The man whose both hands were replaced with mechanical limbs was also a fierce character; he bore the brunt of the impact, and it's unknown if he's still alive.

Su Ziyu suddenly felt like he was just goofing around in a team raid, not even starting to exert any effort before the BOSS was already taken care of.

But it felt pretty great!

"Quick!"

"Charge in!"

The explosion of the mini-nuke seemed to have attracted a large number of Corpse Ghosts. As the team rushed towards the high-rise ahead, Corpse Ghosts surged from the dark corners. However, they didn't pounce on the living humans in front of them but instead rushed towards the area of the mini-nuke explosion. Soon, their bodies began to change, with the originally dark red muscle tissues bulging rapidly, and a bit of dark green, peculiar fluorescence appeared on their surface.

They frantically gnawed at the monster's flesh, even resorting to brutal self-cannibalization for it!

This situation seemed to exceed everyone's expectations.

But fortunately, they had already rushed into the high-rise. This building seemed special, being unmoved even with a mini-nuke exploding beside it. As long as the entrance was defended with firepower, the Corpse Ghosts outside shouldn't be able to break in.

All of this happened within a few short minutes.

Su Ziyu entered a bit slower than the others, primarily because he had a peculiar feeling, and then he turned around to touch the shattered crab-shell-like creature because of the nuclear explosion. That creature was indeed formidable, resisting the nuclear explosion head-on without being vaporized, but exploded into pieces instead.

"Gained 1 Source Power Value."

Su Ziyu just touched it and then dashed away, as hundreds of Corpse Ghosts were already charging behind him.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!

Su Ziyu glanced back at those self-cannibalizing Corpse Ghosts, slightly panting as he arrived beside Pasha. These Corpse Ghosts suddenly seemed mad, all rushing into the nuclear explosion area. The sight of their self-cannibalization was somewhat unsettling; they appeared to have an unusually strong craving for nuclear radiation, even starting to consume each other after a frenzied scuffle.

"Organize the defense line!"

About two-thirds of the people stayed at the entrance, setting up heavy machine guns at the windows. The man whose arms were replaced with mechanical limbs didn't seem dead, but was knocked unconscious by the shockwave and was already carried inside.

"Demolition team, get over here!"

A few people placed explosives at the elevator entrance. With a muffled sound, a dark underground tunnel appeared before them. This high-rise actually had underground facilities, which seemed quite extensive. It's unclear what's down there.

"Let's go."

"The lab should be down there," Pasha took a deep breath and said.

The passage was quite deep, completely shrouded in darkness below.

A few people tossed glow sticks down, then secured ropes to the columns and were the first to slide down along the wall. Su Ziyu followed closely behind Pasha. When they reached about a hundred meters deep underground, his feet finally touched the ground. The underground facility was larger than the surface area, with passageways about six meters wide, surrounded by strange rooms, most of which were locked with heavy iron doors, but some were forced open with brute force. The maze-like underground facility seemed much larger than the surface, indicating a challenging exploration.

The air was well ventilated, but there was still a musty odor.

"Be careful."

"We haven't been here before!" Pasha warned in a hushed voice while holding her gun.

Su Ziyu gestured "OK" and cautiously observed the surroundings. The nearby rooms appeared to be for detaining prisoners, with nothing but a bed inside, and the walls bore numerous black stains, resembling old bloodstains that had seeped into the walls over time.

This eerie environment felt oppressively tense, making everyone a bit nervous.

After passing through the corridor, it opened up considerably to reveal a spacious hall filled with dust-covered tables and chairs, with two emergency lights on the ceiling emitting a soft green glow.

Click.

Someone up front seemed to find a switch, and the lights in the hall flickered several times before gradually lighting up. No one knew how old this lab was, but surprisingly, it still worked. There appeared to be energy supplying the underground, which wasn't too surprising considering the era's advanced nuclear technology.

"Has someone been here before?" Su Ziyu asked, puzzled.

The floor bore some irregular scratches, and it was unclear when they were made, but they felt somewhat off.

"Spread out and search."

The three pathways ahead were filled with dozens of rooms, with most of their locks destroyed. Su Ziyu casually pushed one door open and saw many shattered glass devices, all empty save for some dark green, unknown sediment.

These items carried obvious radiation pollution, persisting despite the passage of time.

"Over here," Pasha's voice echoed from a large room ahead.

Su Ziyu quickly rushed over, and upon pushing the door open, he saw rows upon rows of old desktop computers. For Su Ziyu, accustomed to using laptops, these boxy computers reminded him of his childhood when they were similarly cumbersome. The room held stacks of messy books and documents, but they were completely illegible now. There were also several vials resembling potions on a side table, but only thick dust remained inside.

"Can you crack it?" Pasha asked someone nearby.

The person, seemingly a woman, gestured a thumbs-up before swiftly operating the old computers. Though aged, they functioned perfectly. This world's technology hadn't much progressed in computing but excelled in nuclear technology. The computers had unique algorithms, with an operating system featuring a radiation symbol and many incomprehensible data symbols. Su Ziyu watched as the woman typed rapidly.

"Alert! Alert!"

"Intruders detected! Source of pollution detected!"

"Initiate emergency protocol!"
