Chapter 19 - Chapter 19: When Paths Cross, the Brave Prevail

The life force of the Silent Hunter Lizard is almost at the top level among lethal demons, just like what Yan Luo sees at this moment. Even with a severely injured left side and most of its head battered, it can still stand up.

All the tactics Yan Luo could employ have already been used, and the Silent Hunter Lizard has memorized them. From now on, his battle with the Silent Hunter Lizard can only rely on brute strength.

But he is just an ordinary human, at most standing at the peak of human physical capabilities. How can he fight a lethal demon?

At this moment, the Silent Hunter Lizard moved.

Yan Luo suddenly awoke, his mind suffering from severe exhaustion due to the intense battle in a short period, compounded by an earlier concussion, causing him to react sluggishly. Even though he was fully focused on the Silent Hunter Lizard, it was half a second after it lunged at him that he realized.

The Silent Hunter Lizard darted between the trees, and Yan Luo immediately lost track of its whereabouts.

Yan Luo drew his shotgun, sweat dripping off him, his eyes darted back and forth in their sockets, his body and head constantly shifting, trying to find the Silent Hunter Lizard.

Five seconds later, he suddenly turned around, pointing the shotgun behind him.

The figure of the Silent Hunter Lizard appeared behind Yan Luo at some unknown time, its claw raised, about to smash down.

This is precisely the origin of the Silent Hunter Lizard's name—the creature has the habits of a hunter, favoring attacks from its prey's blind spots.

Yan Luo frequently turned his head and body to create a unique 'visual blind spot,' luring the Silent Hunter Lizard to attack, allowing it to re-enter his perception range.

With a sudden exertion of his legs, Yan Luo jumped away from his original spot, firing at the Silent Hunter Lizard simultaneously.

When the demon is injured, the deflection shield covering its whole body is also weakened. The more severe the injury, the more fragile the deflection shield becomes.

If it were at its peak, Yan Luo's shot wouldn't even have hit it; however, now, a few pellets pierced through the deflection shield, striking the Silent Hunter Lizard's chest scales.

Yan Luo threw his shotgun into the air, grabbed the forearm, and yanked down sharply, using the gun's weight to eject the shell and chamber a round. Then he caught the shotgun's grip again.

When his feet touched the ground, the Silent Hunter Lizard suddenly turned, its thick tail whipping out abruptly.

Seeing this, Yan Luo hastily shot at the tail, using the stopping power to reduce the tail's momentum, slightly slowing its speed.

Immediately after, Yan Luo leapt upward, trying hard to curl up his body.

Even so, the tail still grazed the sole of his foot, striking a tree.

The massive tree's bark exploded, fragments flying, with many pieces striking Yan Luo. Moreover, one shard lodged into his cheek.

If not for the helmet on his head, Yan Luo might have been killed by these splinters piercing his head.

With wooden splinters embedded in his cheek, Yan Luo was in unbearable pain, particularly when his jaw muscles exerted, making the pain even more pronounced.

Yan Luo pulled back his shotgun and lunged at the Silent Hunter Lizard.

Because he knew the Silent Hunter Lizard would certainly swing its tail again!

Just as Yan Luo expected, the Silent Hunter Lizard pulled its tail out from the tree trunk and continued to sweep it across.

Yan Luo hadn't yet reached the base of the tail where the force is weakest. At that spot, even if the tail hit him, it wouldn't cause much harm.

But how could an ordinary human compare to a lethal demon?

Starting from the middle of the tail, Yan Luo ran, reaching three-quarters of the way to the base before getting swept by the Silent Hunter Lizard's tail. His left arm, taking the brunt, suffered further injury, bringing unimaginable pain to Yan Luo.

Before the pain even registered in his brain, Yan Luo's body was flung by the tail.

Bang!

His backpack's airbag deployed once more, but the cushioning effect was much less than the first time. Yan Luo hit a tree and bounced off, landing face-first on the ground.

"Cough, cough..."

Yan Luo coughed up two mouthfuls of bloody foam, strained his limbs, and struggled to stand.

The splinter he hadn't managed to pull out, due to the impact, pierced through one cheek, stabbing through the other, leaving two bloody holes on Yan Luo's face. Even breathing would irritate them, causing pain.

The Silent Hunter Lizard's figure vanished from his sight once more, its location unknown.

Yan Luo raised his hand and tapped his helmet; the disconnected radar came online once again, promptly scanning out the Silent Hunter Lizard on the tree behind him.

At that moment, the Silent Hunter Lizard plummeted down.

Without thinking, Yan Luo urgently leaped forward, rolling and turning to look behind as he got up.

The Silent Hunter Lizard missed its leap, but its arm quickly lifted, propelling its body for another pounce.

At this distance, Yan Luo could no longer dodge.

Therefore, he had already pulled out a concussion grenade while rolling.

The stun grenade flew forward and exploded right at the second it hit the Silent Hunting Lizard's snout, the flash and burst tearing through the air, affecting both Yan Luo and the Silent Hunting Lizard.

"Ugh—!"

Yan Luo let out a stifled groan, capillaries in his nose and ears ruptured, bleeding, his eyeballs swelling and aching, and his brain in excruciating pain.

He curled up his body, using his right hand to protect his head, as the body of the fallen Silent Hunting Lizard immediately charged at him, knocking him away.

Yan Luo's body collided with a tree again, his backpack airbag deploying once more, absorbing most of the impact.

But with any equipment, wear and tear occur, and the backpack airbag's usage limit is five times, though usually, after three uses, it might not deploy at all.

In other words, this could very well be Yan Luo's last time using this tactical escape method.

Struggling to stand, Yan Luo felt dizzy and couldn't keep his balance without holding onto something.

Withstanding the impact of a stun grenade at close range is unbearable for anyone.

Now Yan Luo wanted to vomit, his internal organs felt tangled and chaotic, and something was crashing madly in his head, preventing him from thinking clearly.

Everything his eyes saw was blurry, as if separated by a layer of frosted glass.

After half a minute, Yan Luo's vision slowly recovered.

Compared to Yan Luo, the Silent Hunting Lizard suffered a greater impact, but its physique was much stronger. As soon as Yan Luo's vision returned, it had already stood firm.

The Silent Hunting Lizard shook its head, trying to throw off the dizziness in its mind.

After two seconds, the Silent Hunting Lizard moved.

It sprang from its place, ramming into a tree.

The giant tree shook, shedding a shower of leaves like sand.

Seeing this, Yan Luo was taken aback, then involuntarily clenched his fists.

——Victory is possible!

The Silent Hunting Lizard's steps were steady, seemingly unaffected by the dizziness, more likely suffering from visual impairment due to increased intracranial pressure.

Only two landmines were left in the backpack. Yan Luo didn't hesitate to activate them, throwing them in both directions.

Then Yan Luo took out a shotgun but didn't aim at the Silent Hunting Lizard, he directly fired it.

The gunshot drew the Silent Hunting Lizard's attention, as its impaired vision did not mean its hearing was also compromised.

The Silent Hunting Lizard followed the sound, with Yan Luo's goggles calculating its running speed—ten meters per second!

Yan Luo moved behind the giant tree he was leaning on, silently counting two seconds, and then activated a landmine.

The landmine exploded on the Silent Hunting Lizard's left side, startling it into leaping to the right.

However, this was exactly what Yan Luo wanted it to do.

Leaning against the tree, Yan Luo endured the dizziness and urge to vomit, whispering, "Boom."

Flames and shrapnel erupted from beneath the Silent Hunting Lizard, ripping its belly open.

Awoooo!!!

A piercing scream cut through the dark forest as Yan Luo pulled out a grenade, bit off the pin, stepped out from behind the tree, and threw it at the screaming Silent Hunting Lizard.

The lizard's belly was ripped open, with organs and intestines spilling from the wound. The grenade Yan Luo threw tumbled through the air, detected by the sharp-sensed Silent Hunting Lizard, which immediately swatted it aside with its paw.

The grenade first hit a tree, bounced to the ground, and then exploded.

Even in this grievously injured state, the Silent Hunting Lizard still maintained perception and reflexes far beyond the ordinary.

However, having its belly opened wide wasn't enough to kill the Silent Hunting Lizard. If Yan Luo turned to flee, the creature might go berserk, charging with exposed organs on its exterior to kill him...

With deep eyes fixed on the Silent Hunting Lizard, Yan Luo drew out the shotgun, stepping forward with resolve.

One step, two steps, three steps, four steps...

From walking to speeding up, from speeding up to full sprint!

With the shotgun in hand, Yan Luo charged at the Silent Hunting Lizard.

So it's said, when enemies cross paths—

The brave wins!
