Seeing this group of children, Johnny's heart twisted painfully, because not long ago, they were just like these slum kids, struggling for every meal.
If they had encountered someone kind-hearted like the merchant, wouldn't so many of their partners have survived? Wouldn't they have avoided walking down such a cruel path?
Johnny admitted he had softened.
Johnny told the merchant he would go back and request to spare his family.
