Chapter 10 - CHAPTER 9– SHADOWS ON THE SCREEN

SHADOWS ON THE SCREEN

Location: Hunter Administration Bureau – Midday

The line had grown longer behind Arvan, but he barely noticed. His fingers twitched as they hovered over the consent form. A bureaucratic check-in sheet, really, but it felt more like signing away a part of his soul.

Name: Arvan Das

Age: 18

Awakening: Confirmed

Rank Assessment: Pending

"They don't even ask what's inside my head…"

He swallowed.

The strange voice hadn't spoken in days. But its presence? Still there. Like a furnace behind a velvet curtain. Calm. Watching.

The attendant called out, "Next!"

Arvan shuffled forward, only half aware of his surroundings. He reached the counter and

handed in his file. Just then—

A hush fell over the front hall.

Boots echoed on marble.

A figure in sleek black gear entered, shoulders squared, a black badge gleaming on her chest.

Reina Vārsha.

One of India's youngest S-Rank Hunters. Her presence was like a falling blade—cold, precise, and beautiful in a terrifying way.

She walked straight past the crowd toward the counter. The clerk paled. "Miss Reina—we didn't expect—"

"I need access to the unranked awakenings list. Starting today."

Her eyes briefly passed over the register… and landed on Arvan.

He blinked.

Something shifted in the air. She didn't know him. Not really. But something in him made her instincts flare—an ancient scent hidden beneath layers of dust.

She stepped closer, the rest of the room holding its breath.

"…You're Arvan Das?"

He nodded, unsure whether to bow, run, or collapse.

"Congratulations on awakening," she said calmly, but her eyes were scanning him—subtle, deliberate, calculating. "What did the System assign you?"

Arvan glanced at his HUD. Blank. The screen glitched again. His name had changed—RĀVAṆA—but everything else was still shrouded in black boxes.

"Nothing yet," he lied.

A pause.

Reina didn't press. She smiled faintly, but it wasn't warm.

"If something changes, the Bureau will contact you."

Then, she turned and walked away.

But just before she passed the exit doors, she stopped… and glanced back over her shoulder.

For a single second, her golden irises flared.

And Rāvaṇa's voice stirred for the first time in days.

"Interesting. That woman… her soul smells of thunder gods and curses."

Arvan's throat dried. "Who is she?"

Ravana (inside Arvan):

"No idea."

"But if she keeps looking at me like that… I might just kiss her before I kill her."

Arvan clenched his fists.

Outside, thunder rolled in the distance.
