Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: A Rocky Start (Part 2)

"Huang Yaru! Quick! I'll hold this beast! You take the chance and stab its head with the screwdriver! Remember to stab the head!" Tang Xiaoquan shouted loudly.

This was the only solution he could think of at the moment, but...

Frozen in place, Huang Yaru didn't move a muscle. She leaned against the wall in horror, her arms wrapped around her chest, her beautiful eyes filled with fear.

"Hey! Huang Yaru! What are you waiting for! Hurry! Do you want us all to die together?"

"Yes, Yaru, do it quickly! I can't hold on for much longer on this side!"

...

From left and right, the scolding from King Tang and the other was like a death sentence, exploding in her ears one after another, making Huang Yaru feel as if her head was about to burst.

She seemed to have returned to that midnight, the one chased by zombies.

Tears streamed down uncontrollably from the corners of her eyes, the voices in her ears gradually becoming blurred, Huang Yaru was on the brink of collapse.

Damn it! Hearing the soft sobbing from behind, Tang Xiaoquan was furious enough to kill!

He was frustrated at Huang Yaru's cowardice, this woman was even more fragile than he had expected; he was even more frustrated with his own uselessness, if only he had exercised more instead of staying home all the time, then perhaps...

Bang, getting distracted in battle is undoubtedly deadly. Although it was only a few seconds, it was enough to let the opponent reach your vitals.

Especially when the enemy Tang Xiaoquan faced was a bloodthirsty killing machine.

Accompanied by an excited roar, the zombie swung its claws and once again hit the blackened pot bottom that had blocked it many times.

But this time, it succeeded.

The fatal distraction plus an already numb and exhausted left arm caused Tang Xiaoquan to finally be overwhelmed by its fierce strike, and he flew backward heavily.

His body slammed hard into the wall, then bounced off due to inertia.

Watching the ever-enlarging zombie mouth in his vision, Tang Xiaoquan despaired. He wanted to do something, but his out-of-control body left him powerless to resist.

Another excited roar, the zombie blocking his way was celebrating its soon-to-be feast in its own way.

Perhaps its gloating incited discontent among the other zombies, or perhaps its excitement roused the fighting spirit of the others; in any case, with its excited roar, the remaining zombies in the corridor became agitated.

A tide of zombies like a sea, with roars shaking the sky, these words might be an exaggeration, but the small corridor was indeed crowded with a swarm of zombies.

The ones in the back squeezed the middle, the middle squeezed the front, each like eager fans waving their arms, trying their best to squeeze forward as if afraid they would miss their beloved singer's autograph.

As the crowding increased, the zombies near the edge of the railing began to "think outside the box," using the gaps between the railings to launch an attack on the food trapped in the middle of the corridor.

Thus, roars were accompanied by the sound of clawing and scraping, mixed with the sound of pressing and crowding.

Finally, through their relentless and tireless efforts, a lucky zombie managed to grab something.

It was an ankle, covered in sheer beige stockings on fair, smooth skin.

And with the zombie's tug, the owner of the stocking suddenly...

"Ah~"

The sound jolted his eardrums, and Wang Qiang felt dizzy as if his brain had been struck by a sharp weapon.

Instinctively, he glanced back, and in that moment, the horror almost made him topple to the ground.

At the very top, Tang Xiaoquan was being firmly held by a zombie, its mouth poised to bite into his neck any second.

And on his left, Huang Yaru's ankles were being forcefully dragged by a zombie; it seemed only a matter of time before they were torn apart and devoured.

This was a life-and-death moment, his brother against the woman he admired, weighing them wasn't an option!

Experts often say that human potential is limitless.

For example, a frail mother protecting her child can often do things that are unimaginable;

A timid coward might suddenly manifest extraordinary endurance to reclaim dignity.

And Wang Qiang, at this crucial moment of life and death for two people, undoubtedly mobilized all his potential.

Without hesitation, Wang Qiang turned around, adrenaline rushing, he kicked a zombie closing in directly.

With his full-strength blow, the unlucky zombie, just spreading its arms, was sent flying, crashing heavily into the comrades gathering from the back row.

Instantly, a domino effect occurred, with several nearby zombies toppling to the floor one after another, forming a natural barricade of bodies.

Even though Wang Qiang knew this makeshift wall wouldn't hold back the zombie tide for long, in the current situation, even a second was precious.

No time to check if any zombies could break through, Wang Qiang turned again, his eyes fixed on the zombie about to bite Tang Xiaoquan, then resolutely raised the "Long Spear" in his hand, stabbing it down with force at the latter's temple.

"Squish, splat~" The blade pierced the skin and bone, making a piercing "splat" sound.

Spearing down, Wang Qiang still didn't think twice. He released the spear shaft, grabbed the butcher knife in his left hand, and bent down for another chop, the blade accurately slicing into the zombie hand clawing at Huang Yaru's ankles.

Three actions, completed seamlessly with incredible speed.

But there wasn't any trace of excitement on Wang Qiang's face; instead, his furrowed brows grew tighter.

He knew he was racing against time, a second late would cost lives.

"Let's go!" Ignoring social conventions of male-female contact, Wang Qiang wrapped his arms around Huang Yaru's waist. Then, lifting her with effort, he ran upstairs, carrying her along.

When passing the zombie blocking the way, he casually pulled out the "Eight-footed Snake Spear" embedded in its skull.

His lungs puffed like bellows, making a "huff huff" sound, Wang Qiang leaned against the wall, feeling like his entire body was about to fall apart.

Narrowly escaping death, having returned from the Ghost Gate, Tang Xiaoquan was equally breathless to the point of collapse, his face pale and devoid of any flush.

In contrast to their exhausted states, Huang Yaru was physically unscathed, yet boundless fear had driven this helpless woman completely to the brink of breakdown.

"Miss Huang, are you alright?" As his breath steadied, Wang Qiang turned and glanced at Huang Yaru standing dazed to the side, simultaneously placing a concerned palm on her shoulder.

But...

"Ah!"
