Chapter 31 - Chapter 14: The Unknown

One must cultivate their technique to Tier Four to skillfully use magical artifacts, and above Tier Four, a sorcerer can be called a cultivator. Qian Guran's level is still lacking; he can only vaguely sense some of its effects.

By roughly sensing this object, it possesses rare passive magical uses. Passive means it does not require casting to activate; even ordinary people who don't understand techniques can feel its effects.

For example, this beast claw has at least the effects of "calming the spirit" and "malice detection." When ordinary people wear it, it can stabilize emotions allowing for better sleep, and they will have an inexplicable sense of vigilance when maliciously spied upon, though they may be unaware of the reason.

Creating such an object requires great power and skillful technique. The "energy" that allows it to function can either be left by the creator or drawn automatically from the surrounding environment.

Does this defy physical laws? It should not, since the energy used to perform various techniques comes from unknown sources, at least not solely from the food consumed by people, but in any case, it does have a source!

Qian Guran's assessment of the Hidden Moth object should be that it's a passive divine artifact. A divine artifact conceals itself, showing no anomalies outwardly; only by holding it and carefully sensing can one make discoveries.

Divine artifacts are rare; at least Qian Guran has never seen one. A passive divine artifact, allowing ordinary people to possess incredible abilities, resembles a kind of legend, but the legend is indeed true!

But how should ordinary people use it? Qian Guran pondered secretly, it might require daily mental communication, similar to how He Kao carried it closely, holding it several times every night before sleep, perhaps from childhood to adulthood.

It is probably not something one can become a Hidden Moth with upon receiving; it needs to be carefully felt, sensed, and comprehended. Qian Guran was not in a hurry; he could take his time to ponder since the object was already in his possession.

Actually, even if He Kao is not a Hidden Moth and this beast claw is not a Hidden Moth object, Qian Guran would not lose out, because preliminary identification shows it's at least a passive magical artifact with more than one effect.

Qian Guran had worried time might be too limited, but things went smoother than expected. He quickly returned to the changing room to place the fake back in its original position.

He had surveyed the area beforehand, intending to tamper with the surveillance, but found no monitoring in the changing room, at least not in the dressing and bathing areas, making things more convenient.

After doing everything, Qian Guran did not directly return to the department gathering but instead changed into swim trunks and swam a few laps, then dressed in his bathrobe, carrying a towel and cellphone to his colleagues to appear as if he had just been swimming.

Actually, Qian Guran had plenty of "crime" time, as those who came here to play almost wouldn't return to the changing room to change clothes again all day.

People would come out of the pool, towel dry, and change into bathrobes, with all expenses charged to wristbands.

After lunch at the buffet, some sang in private rooms on the third floor in the afternoon, while others were in another room on the second floor playing role-playing games. Qian Guran attended everywhere, not leaving early, just to see He Kao's reaction.

Some left after lunch, while others stayed until late at night. He Kao left after dinner. The situation Qian Guran worried about did not happen; He Kao showed no abnormality when leaving.

This was exactly what Qian Guran hoped for, yet it left him puzzled. The Hidden Moth object was swapped; shouldn't the Hidden Moth himself immediately detect something amiss? Could it be that He Kao has no mental connection to the object?

This was Qian Guran's concern, so he didn't dare leave the beast claw in the club. While others were at the buffet lunch, he secretly went out to store the item in a safe, hidden location.

But from He Kao's reaction, it seemed his concerns were unnecessary. What could be the reason for this? Qian Guran pondered, providing himself a possible explanation—

He Kao is, after all, just an ordinary person with no sorcerer's perception ability. Although he is a Hidden Moth, he might only realize something is wrong when using the beast claw to activate Hidden Moth abilities?

Perhaps by then, He Kao wouldn't realize the object was switched but believe his ability failed? This possibility cannot be ruled out. If so, everything would be perfect...

Actually, Qian Guran was overthinking, as He Kao wasn't a Hidden Moth at all. Regarding the pendant, though special, He Kao himself didn't understand it; when putting it back on his chest, he didn't spare it another glance.

Despite this, Qian Guran remained cautious, secretly relocating the item over a hundred kilometers away for storage. Under such circumstances, even if He Kao could sense the connection to the beast claw, he would never discover it.

After obtaining the beast claw, Qian Guran felt its extraordinariness, growing more delighted with its effects the more he toyed with it, yet he still opted not to carry it with him for safety's sake.

He Kao moved to building number three, apartment 2016, and Qian Guran subsequently moved into apartment 2114 in the same building.

He Kao chose 2016 simply because it was the only vacant apartment on that floor, yet some things were beyond his understanding.

Apartment 2114, located diagonally above 2016, allowed Qian Guran to covertly watch him, even more conveniently than before.

Old Qian, of course, was very cautious. He didn't vacate his old apartment or rent the new one under his name but instead found a reliable person to rent it under their identity.
