Just as Herbert had settled everything and was ready to leave, the anxious girl spoke again.

Herbert turned back curiously, surprised that the girl had made another request at this moment.
He wasn't impatient with arrogance but was amazed by Teresa's courage.
This little one, clearly anxious to the extreme, didn't dare to make any more requests, fearing she might offend him.
But now, why was she willing to muster the courage to plead for someone else?
Teresa faced Herbert's probing gaze, shrank back a bit, instinctively wanting to close her mouth, but still mustered the courage to say, "Well, it's like this, I have another companion."
