Xie Liangchen looked at her grandmother, her face full of smiles.
"Grandmother," Xie Liangchen said, "I heard that boys call their mothers 'Mother Xiao', and girls call their fathers 'Father Xiao', what if it's the other way around?"
Old Mrs. Chen hadn't thought about that, it's easy for boys not to pick up needle and thread, but what if girls don't enter the kitchen?
Old Mrs. Chen said, "Then the great-granddaughter won't learn embroidery, nor cooking."
Xie Liangchen could almost picture her grandmother stopping her daughter from touching needle and thread.
Mrs. Gao happened to walk in, heard this and said, "If she doesn't learn this, doesn't learn that, then what will she learn?"
Old Mrs. Chen said, "There's so much to learn, like studying medicine with Mr. Xu, or reading and writing, why must they learn those? My granddaughter..."
"Liangchen's cooking is quite delicious," Mrs. Gao said with a smile, "isn't she going to pass that down?"
