"That's great."
Shi Nian wasn't frustrated, instead she breathed a sigh of relief, reaching up to smooth strands of hair that had slipped loose from her bun. Her hair is rather soft and shows a natural wave after washing, so when pinned up, it often cheekily escapes, adding a touch of laziness and — as Ye He puts it, a "teasing sensuality" — to the calm and professional image she tries to project.
The word "sensual" is considered the highest praise for women in M Country, but Shi Nian is still somewhat unaccustomed to it.
Ye He thought he was hearing things, rubbing his ears: "How is that good?"
Shi Nian snapped the interview outline shut: "I was originally hesitating about which questions on this outline could be asked directly and which needed to leave him some face... now it's fine, I don't have to worry about picking and choosing, I can just ask whatever I want."
Ye He couldn't help but grab the outline, scanned it up and down, then hurriedly pressed down on Shi Nian's wrist: "Boss, I beg you, none of these questions can be asked! Otherwise, we won't be able to mix in all of Chinatown, or even all of Jiazhou, or even all of M Country..."
Shi Nian frowned: "Is it really that exaggerated? He's just a cop."
Ye He was about to cry: "Boss, you've only been an immigrant for a short time, you don't know how deep the waters run with the Tang Family! The Tang Family is the one currently referred to as the 'first Chinese family'!"
"Even though Tang Yanqing is just a policeman, his grandfather was once the Chief Justice of the Federal Court, one of his uncles is a Congressman, another uncle is the famous police chief known as the 'Chinese Detective', and his other uncle is a prosecutor...his father was once the most expensive Chinese lawyer in this state and is now running for Governor; while his mother manages the Tangsen Group, renowned in the Asia Pacific, which owns China's most expensive real estate..."
As Ye He spoke, the panic in his eyes unconsciously shifted, little by little hearts started floating out.
"This Tang Yanqing is the most favored young master of the Tang Family, known as the 'First Chinese Prince' ~ sparkling from head to toe…"
"Ahem," Shi Nian deliberately coughed, passing over a tissue: "Ye He, wipe your mouth."
Ye He was startled, quickly came back to reality to wipe his mouth... only to realize it was dry and knew he had been duped.
"Boss!…"
"No wonder when you heard the boss instructing me to be sure to interview Tang Yanqing at first, you volunteered to be my assistant. At that time, everyone disliked that I was a newcomer and didn't want to team up with me, only you volunteered. Turns out it wasn't my charm, but this Mr. Tang's charm after all."
Ye He blushed: "…Just a little bit. But Boss, I really like your style too."
Shi Nian smiled: "Aren't M Country people supposed to disregard backgrounds? I don't care who he is, in my eyes, he's only one thing — Officer Tang Yanqing, my soon-to-be interview subject."
Ye He was despondent: "But he already said he wouldn't accept our interview. Actually, he never accepts media interviews, no matter how big the celebrity is, it's too difficult of the boss, why was your first assignment after joining the group to score an interview with him?"
Shi Nian bowed her head: "Because I am Chinese, and Tang Yanqing is also Chinese. If I can't do it, why did the boss hire me over other applicants as a Chinese this time?"
This is the boss's "trial by fire" for her, she wants to officially step into the doors of the Deep Throat Media Group, to become one of them, she first has to jump over this hurdle.
So she must interview him, no matter what difficulties she may encounter.
