Kakashi walked slowly through the quiet streets of New York. The city was slowly returning to normal after the battle or rather the invasion by aliens.
Streetlights glowed softly. A few cars drove past with tired drivers. Most people had gone home to sleep after the long day.
Kakashi kept his disguise as Sukea. People now knew about his abilities and who he was thanks to some people posting some of his videos as he battles chitauri.
He was still trying to process something like an incursion was possible and could destroy universes or even change reality itself.
Everything he knew, everything he had fought for, everything he had lost, could simply vanish because two realities touched in the wrong way.
And he had to go to other universe to stop this. It made him feel overwhelmed
He had done missions since he was five years old. No mission had ever made him feel overwhelmed. He had faced tailed beasts, rogue ninja, and wars that killed thousands.
Even the pain of losing his team had not broken him completely. Well, maybe being a sensei of Team 7 might have overwhelmed him just a little. Just A tiny little bit. He remembered Naruto's endless energy, Sasuke's anger, Sakura's forehead.
Trying to teach three strong-willed kids at the same time had been harder than any S-rank mission. He almost smiled at the memory.
At least the Ancient One had said that they had time to prepare themselves. It would not happen in a couple of months but it would take some years at least to weaken the barriers more.
'Well, at least reality barriers are strong.' Kakashi felt a small relief from that.
He then thought about how to tell Fury about this. 'The guy would freak out. He was already paranoid about the aliens in this universe. Heck, he was paranoid about his own men in S.H.I.E.L.D.'
'Telling him about other realities might just give him a heart attack. And wait… why do I have to tell him anyway? I am no longer part of S.H.I.E.L.D. but the leader of the Avengers. And it is in my job role to protect Earth so I do not think I need his permission now.' Kakashi felt a small sense of freedom with that thought. He no longer had to report every move to Fury. He could decide what information to share and when.
And then Kakashi paused as another thought popped in his mind,'So since I am no longer a part of S.H.I.E.L.D… do I get my salary? Those Playboy magazines and erotic novels do not come for free. I will have to ask Fury next time I see him about this.'
A pickpocket tried to grab his wallet from behind. Kakashi smacked the man's hand absentmindedly without even turning around. The thief yelped and ran away.
Kakashi kept walking.
He remembered that he had to give a press conference about the Avengers soon. That would be a big drag. Cameras, reporters, stupid questions. He hated public speaking.
His mind drifted to who he should bring to the alternate universe to protect Earth.
'I think a little muscle power would be good. I will handle most of the work anyway. I would need the brains though.'
He needed to select people that he thought would be right for this task.
They could not leave Earth unguarded especially if Loki came back. So he knew that they needed to leave some of the Avengers behind.
Blonsky, Creel, Thor, Hawkeye were his primary picks to stay on Earth.
The first three would be enough for power threats and Thor could deal with Loki.
As for Hawkeye, Kakashi did not want Hawkeye to go away from his family let alone in an entirely different universe.
Clint had a wife and children. He had already having nightmares due to Loki's mind control. Taking him away to another reality would be cruel. Clint deserved to stay home, to hug his kids, to live a normal life when he could. Kakashi had seen too many shinobi lose their families because of missions. He would not do that to Clint.
So he, Natasha, Banner, Cap and Tony were the ones he was planning to take with him. Banner and Tony would have the brains for the job. They could figure out the science behind the barriers. They could analyse whatever technology or magic the other side used to break the barriers.
And they could always rely on Hulk if they needed more firepower.
They also needed to gather information in the other universe Earth to find out who had the capability to break the barriers between universes. Ancient One did not know who were responsible for this in the other universe. The time stone only told about the future of this universe apparently.
Natasha was perfect for such role. She could infiltrate, spy, blend in, and get secrets without being noticed.
And Cap was there for moral support and to handle Tony. Steve's nature would keep Tony focused when the genius started joking or getting distracted. Cap would remind everyone why they were fighting.
'Of course, they also had to accept going to another universe. But I am sure they would.' Kakashi thought with a smile under his mask.
He was sure they would accept.
Tony and Banner were like Orochimaru of this world but with much less human experimentation and a lot more curiosity. Alternate universes would surely attract these scientists even though how horrifying it was to know your universe is going to get destroyed.
Cap was a person who really did not care about his life anymore. He was frozen and had lost all the people he remembered. He was also too good to let a universe get destroyed.
And as for Natasha, she was still trying to redeem herself for all the assassinations that she had done of innocent people before joining S.H.I.E.L.D.
'Now that I think about it I might be the only one not that interested in going to another reality. Well, my previous experience was bad so I can not be blamed.' Kakashi thought amusedly as he dropped a message to the four Avengers to meet him.
