Chapter 65 - Chapter 64: Ambush (1)

The SHIELD convoy stood halted on the highway, surrounded by black SUVs and a looming helicopter from which the man had jumped.

Kakashi could see that despite so many agents, they were heavily outnumbered.

Before the SHIELD agents could demand the attackers' identity or purpose, four masked men stepped forward, shouldering missile launchers.

Their movements were swift, and the launchers locked onto the SHIELD vans. An agent's eyes widened, his voice cracking. "Take cover!"

Kakashi's instincts kicked in. 'No time.' He leaped in front of the convoy, slamming his hands onto the ground.

"Earth Release: Mud Wall!" Chakra surged, and a massive wall of earth erupted, shielding the entire caravan. The missiles slammed into it, exploding in a deafening roar.

The wall crumbled under the impact, but it contained the blasts, saving the shield agents.

'Good. No casualties yet,' Kakashi thought.

As the wall collapsed, Kakashi's hands were already weaving signs for his next jutsu.

'Can't let the debris hit.'

"Wind Style: Wind Breakthrough!" A gust of chakra-infused wind blasted forward, redirecting the falling earth toward the attackers. One masked man was too slow, crushed under a chunk of rock, while the others dove for cover. The metallic-skinned man smashed a boulder aimed at him, his fists shattering it effortlessly.

'Tough guy. Not surprised since his skin looks completely covered in metal.' Kakashi thought, his eyes narrowing.

Gunfire erupted, bullets flying between the SHIELD agents and the attackers.

Kakashi lifted his headband, activating his Sharingan. The world slowed, each bullet's trajectory clear.

He dodged effortlessly, his body a blur.

'To this day, these bullets amaze me,' he thought, marveling at their speed and lethality. They were faster than a kunai, deadlier than most jutsu.

They were like the Second Mizukage's signature Water Gun Jutsu, an A-rank technique turned into mass-produced ammo.

His mind flickered with regret. 'Pity I never got the chance to copy that jutsu.'

He moved, pulling two agents out of a bullet's path, their shocked faces registering his speed.

His gaze flicked to Natasha, who was weaving through the attackers, her movements lethal.

'She's handling herself. Good. In fact, she is evening out the numbers on both sides,' he thought, watching her take down two masked men with precise shots.

'Shw would have made a great kunoichi, but with guns and a lot more flexible. Not to mention, her skills as a spy and gathering information.' Kakashi thought

Natasha was an expert in Taijutsu. He ranked her at least a jonin in Taijutsu. He could see that she was well trained in various martial arts and used her nimbleness and flexibility to her advantage.

She lacked the strength of a shinobi who could infuse chakra into his or her blows but she made it up by targeting lethal areas or well using lethal weapons like a knife or well...guns.

He saw—a sniper in the chopper, aiming at Natasha who was busy with more of the attackers surrounding her.

Kakashi body flickered to her side, yanking her toward him. The bullet whizzed past where she'd stood, embedding in the ground. He flicked a kunai to divert a bullet coming his way.

Natasha's eyes widened, then narrowed, a smirk forming. "Now, aren't you being romantic? Did you learn this from your smut novels? Save the heroine and go with her to a dinner later the same day? I must say that you have managed to charm me. Now if you can please show me your face, oh my masked hero."

Kakashi's thoughts were dry. 'Troublesome woman.'

"You're making it easier for me to let the bullet hit you next time," he said wryly. "But I'd rather avoid a lecture from Fury about your death. Plus, Clint would give me a hard time if I let you die. So I prefer dealing with your annoying self."

Natasha's smirk widened, "Damn, that's quite a pickle," she said, flipping backward over Kakashi.

In mid-air, she fired her pistol, the bullet piercing the sniper's skull. He crumpled, falling from the chopper. 'One less problem,' she thought, landing gracefully.

Kakashi's thoughts were exasperated. His focus shifted to the metallic-skinned man, now under fire from SHIELD agents.

Natasha's takedowns had thinned the attackers, giving the agents an edge. Kakashi noticed a bleeding wound on the man's abdomen, the metal skin cracked.

'He is probably being hit by an armor-piercing bullet. He's not as skilled as the others. If he was skilled, he would have been more careful about such bullets. His ability probably went to his head, thinking no one could injure him. He is someone who is specifically hired for this mission due to his ability, not a pro who is used to this.' Kakashi's mind raced.

His gaze flicked to the four missile launcher wielders, who had reloaded.

'Can't let them fire again.' Kakashi wove signs, chakra flaring. "Fire Style: Phoenix Flower Jutsu!"

He exhaled, sending small fireballs toward the launchers. Simultaneously, he threw shuriken, each enveloped by a fireball.

The projectiles struck true, igniting the four men in small explosions.

Kakashi then drew a kunai, 'Let's be quick about this before we start facing casualties.' He scanned the remaining attackers, their numbers dwindling under SHIELD's counterattack.
