Chapter 28 - The path of strength

The morning sun crested the horizon, casting its golden rays over the sprawling grounds of the Blue Moon Pack. The air was crisp, the scent of pine and earth filling Callista's lungs as she stood on the training grounds, watching the pack members prepare for the day's exercises.

She had been here for a few weeks now, but this was different. Today, she wasn't just an observer. Today, she was stepping into the heart of the pack's training.

Lucien stood a few feet away, speaking with some of the higher-ranking warriors. His presence was commanding, even without speaking. The pack had been eager to start training her, but Callista had insisted on starting with the basics, at least until she could understand her powers better.

Her hand instinctively went to the mark on her neck, the bond that tethered her to Lucien, and she felt the familiar warmth that had been growing stronger each day.

"Are you ready?" Lucien's voice broke her from her thoughts, and she turned to find him walking toward her, his eyes gleaming with the same intensity she had come to expect from him.

She nodded, swallowing the nervous lump in her throat. "Ready as I'll ever be."

"Good. Today, we start with combat. You need to learn how to defend yourself-against the witches, against anyone who might come at you."

Callista's heart raced. It wasn't the physical challenge that intimidated her-it was the weight of what it meant. She wasn't just learning to fight for herself. She was learning to protect the pack, to defend the very bond she shared with Lucien. She is something more than just his mate. She is Luna.

They began with basic hand-to-hand combat, and despite her initial hesitation, Callista found herself quickly adapting. The training wasn't just physical-it was mental, pushing her to dig deep within herself, to draw on the strength she didn't even know she had.

"Focus," Lucien's voice guided her, sharp and clear, as he stepped back, allowing her to practice on her own. "Find your center. Trust in the bond. Trust in yourself."

Her movements became more fluid, and soon, she was sparring with the warriors in the pack, holding her own. She wasn't as fast or as strong as Lucien, but she was learning, adapting, and becoming more powerful with every move.

Lucien stood off to the side, watching her with a mix of pride and admiration. He had always known she was capable of great things, but seeing her take to the training with such determination only solidified his belief in her.

As the hours passed, the sun climbed higher, and Callista's body grew weary. But there was something more than just fatigue tugging at her. It was the deep, gnawing feeling of purpose. She had always felt out of place, unsure of her path. But now, with each strike, each movement, she felt more and more like she was exactly where she needed to be.

After a long, grueling session, Lucien called for a break. Callista collapsed onto the grass, her chest heaving as she tried to catch her breath. She could feel the weight of the bond pressing against her chest, reminding her of how far she still had to go.

"You did well today," Lucien said, sitting beside her. His voice was softer now, a stark contrast to the commanding tone he used during training. "You're stronger than you think."

Callista glanced up at him, her eyes tired but focused. "I still have a long way to go. I want to be ready for whatever comes next. I want to be able to protect the pack."

Lucien smiled, his expression warm and reassuring. "You already are. You've already proven that you're capable. But we'll train together, every day, until you're ready. Until you're more than just the Luna of Blue Moon Pack-you'll be the symbol of everything we stand for."

She felt his hand on hers, grounding her, and for a moment, everything else faded away. The pack, the witches, the war-they didn't matter in that instant. It was just the two of them, bound by something deeper than either of them had ever known.

And Callista knew, in that moment, she wasn't alone. She had found her place-not just as Lucien's mate, but as Luna, and nothing would take that away from her.

The days ahead would be difficult. She would have to train harder, grow stronger, and make choices that could change everything. But as long as Lucien stood beside her, she knew she could face whatever the future held.

"Tomorrow," Lucien said, breaking the silence, "we begin your next phase of training. But for now...rest."

Callista nodded, her exhaustion finally catching up to her, but her heart was lighter than it had been in a long time. The future was uncertain, but with Lucien, she was ready to face it.
