Chapter 7 - Obito's Surprise

The weekend came quickly.

The ninja academy operated similarly to how schools worked in Auron's previous life: classes from Monday to Friday, with weekends off.

Because of a prior agreement, at 8 a.m., Auron brought Obito and Might Guy to the place where he usually trained with Shisui and began their "special training."

"Why do we have to wake up so early, even on the weekend?" Obito groaned as he lay across the desk Auron had prepared in advance.

"Early? I think it's fine," Might Guy scratched his head, unable to relate to Obito's complaint.

Auron handed out practice worksheets he had prepared for the two. These were custom-made to fit their current learning level. After all, they had only been in school for five days—it wouldn't make sense to throw last year's exams at them.

Given their situation, Auron didn't plan on having them tackle difficult problems. It was enough if they could score the easy points and pass.

"Auron-sensei, what is this…?"

Before long, Shisui arrived, ready for his training. When he saw Obito and Guy suffering over the worksheets, he looked confused.

"They're fourth-year students. I'm tutoring them. Go ahead with your training, it won't be a problem," Auron explained.

Shisui wasn't there by coincidence—Auron had asked him to come the night before.

His goal? He thought it would be an interesting scene: older students grinding through dull worksheets while a younger schoolmate practiced cool ninjutsu nearby.

While working on his problems, Obito overheard the conversation and looked up—only to freeze.

He recognized Shisui.

The Uchiha clan all lived in the same district in Konoha, so most people in the same generation at least knew of each other.

Especially someone like Shisui—a prodigy often cited by parents as the "ideal child" when lecturing their own. It was hard not to know him.

Obito was puzzled. Why was Shisui here? And he seemed to be close with Auron.

"Could Auron-sensei be one of Shisui's distant relatives?" Obito guessed, though it didn't sound very plausible even in his own head.

"Sensei, I'm done!" Might Guy suddenly shouted with energy.

"That fast?" Obito was stunned. He didn't think he had been distracted for that long, yet Guy claimed he was finished already?

He leaned over curiously and saw that Guy had only completed the first three multiple-choice questions. The rest of the paper was completely blank.

Obito didn't know what to say. The whole sheet only had ten questions: four multiple choice, six short answers.

While he wasn't confident in many of them either, at least he'd try to fill in something to make it look better.

Auron came over to check Guy's work—two were wrong, only the first one was right.

"Sorry, Sensei…" Guy looked embarrassed that two of the only three questions he answered were wrong.

"It's fine. Not knowing is normal. If you already knew everything, I wouldn't need to teach you," Auron said with a reassuring smile.

"Don't let a low score get to you. Think of it this way: your room for improvement is massive. Going from five points to twenty-five is way easier than from eighty to a hundred."

Guy's body tensed with motivation. For the first time—outside of his father—he received real encouragement.

"You're right, Sensei! I've got huge room to grow!" Guy suddenly became fired up.

Auron's explanation afterward was met with Guy's full attention. Even if he didn't fully understand, he did his best to try.

Next up was Obito, who had filled in six questions but only got two right.

Auron treated him the same—comfort first, then correction.

After going through the answers, Auron handed out two more similar worksheets.

"More?" Obito's eyes drifted toward Shisui, who had started practicing Fire Release.

"Fire Style: Great Fireball Jutsu!"Shisui formed the hand signs swiftly and spat out a two-meter-wide fireball into the river.

Seeing the enormous fireball, Obito was stunned. No wonder he's known as a genius in the clan, he thought.

As an Uchiha, Obito also knew the Great Fireball Jutsu, a classic for the clan.

But in terms of size and power, his version looked more like a "small fireball" in comparison.

"Another genius like Kakashi?" Guy wondered aloud.

He didn't know who Shisui was, but seeing such a young boy—no more than six or seven—produce a jutsu with that much force shocked him.

It reminded him of his self-declared rival, Kakashi.

The ninja academy had three terms: April–July, September–December, and then January–March after winter break.

Kakashi didn't even finish the second term before applying for early graduation—and passing. His genius was undeniable.

Now, Shisui gave Guy the exact same vibe.

Next, Shisui began practicing Fire Style: Dragon Fire Jutsu.

Guy was even more shocked—Shisui knew multiple fire-style jutsus?! Meanwhile, it had taken Guy three years to barely learn the three basic body techniques taught at school.

Obito also looked on with envy. If I could pull that off, Rin would be totally impressed.

"You've clearly improved a lot on your form since last time. The dragon's speed is faster too—you must've practiced hard last night," Auron praised Shisui.

"It's all thanks to your training manual, Auron-sensei," Shisui smiled.

"Let me show you again."

Auron stepped in front of Shisui, clapped his hands, and instantly compressed his chakra. In the blink of an eye, he spat out three massive fire dragons.

Obito was stunned.

One moment he was impressed by Shisui's dragon fire, and the next, Auron made it look like a toy in comparison.

They weren't even in the same league. Shisui's jutsu looked like a garden snake next to Auron's roaring dragons. And what was with that speed? It didn't even seem like he used hand signs.

The dragons weaved through the sky, leaving behind flaming trails that eventually formed glowing words in the air:

"Stop staring and get back to work."

Obito read the message aloud, then noticed Auron standing nearby, smiling warmly.

He jumped in surprise and quickly said, "I just needed a quick break to look at the sky!"

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw that Guy had already picked up his pen again—super fast reflexes.

"Have you looked enough now?" Auron asked.

"Yep, all good!" Obito quickly got back to writing.

After a while, Obito couldn't help but ask, "Auron-sensei, what's your relationship with Shisui?"

"Teacher and student. What else would it be?" Auron glanced at Guy's paper as he replied.

"Hehe, I thought so too." Obito didn't mention his earlier wild guess.

"Auron-sensei, if I pass the test, can you teach me that jutsu you just used?" Obito asked eagerly.

In his mind, he was already imagining showing off to Rin. He was basically popping champagne already.

"Of course," Auron nodded.

"Really?" Obito looked delighted.

"Really."

"Auron-sensei, what kind of taijutsu do you know?" Guy asked with stars in his eyes.

While he thought the dragon fire was super cool, Guy had a clear goal—taijutsu only!

Auron didn't answer. Instead, he walked over to a large tree, channeled chakra into his legs, tightened his muscles, and unleashed a whirlwind kick.

CRACK—The tree fell instantly, kicking up a cloud of dust.

"How about that? Do you like this technique?" Auron dusted off his foot and smiled at Guy.

Guy's eyes lit up at Auron's clean, lightning-fast whirlwind kick. It perfectly matched his dream image of taijutsu.

Simple. Fast. Powerful. Stylish.

"I love it! Please teach me this for sure!" Guy shouted with enthusiasm, utterly satisfied.

"I'm glad you like it," Auron nodded.

This reaction was expected. After all, Guy would eventually develop this move himself, turning it into a full series—Great Whirlwind, Iron Whirlwind, all sorts of Konoha-style whirlwind techniques. Of course he liked it.

With Auron's promise, both Obito and Guy were ecstatic. Even the test sheets that used to give them headaches looked a little more pleasant.

"Time to go all out! I'm getting at least four right this time!" Obito cracked his knuckles like he was gearing up for battle.

"I must get at least three! Otherwise, I'll run 500 laps around the village tonight!" Guy swore an oath to master the taijutsu of his dreams, even resorting to strict self-discipline.

He was eager to learn it and challenge Kakashi again to see how much stronger he'd become.

But that burst of motivation faded quickly. After doing a few more questions, Obito realized something:

When he was desperate, he might manage a bigger fireball. Maybe even hit the target five times in a row with shuriken.

But test questions? No amount of desperation helped.

He held his head with one hand, fiddling with his pen in the other, staring at the rustling green leaves outside with growing irritation. Even the trees felt like they were mocking his struggle.

He glanced over at Guy.

Even though they'd been classmates for over three years, and shared a mutual friend in Kakashi, they had never really hung out together. Their relationship was… average at best.
