The vibration of the phone buzzed against my thigh, catching me by surprise. I pulled it out from my pocket and read them.
My heart raced. My hand turned clammy. But my eyes stayed focused on the lone figure that roamed the empty place by the water fountain. Instantly I knew the person was a threat based on the way Ed sent the message.
I took a peek where the person was, to see if I could make it in time to get inside the maze. Only a couple more steps to reach home. But the sounds of his footsteps grew louder as it drew closer.
It was heading towards the observation deck where I stood out in the open with no place to hide. My first instinct was to run inside the gym and jump into the pool. But that too, would be dangerous if I did not make it in time. I scanned with despair the surroundings for a suitable hiding place. One that I knew by heart had none.
