"You bloody bastard!" Declan called, charging towards Kael, but I quickly got hold of him, and pulled him back.
The sight of Kael, whom we all thought was dead, standing so close to Avira, and the possibility that it was he whom she had made out with only a few hours ago was hard to accept, but then, after everything we had done to her, it was the least of what we deserved.
His dark eyes locked onto mine without surprise or fear. They were cold, sharp, calculating and possessive.
He stood too close to Avira. Close enough that his arm brushed the side of her throne. Close enough that he looked like he belonged there, like they belonged together.
My wolf exploded inside me, but more in guilt than in anger.
Avira sat calmly upon the carved wooden throne. Her eyes were fixed on us with terrifying stillness. The warmth that used to grace those eyes were gone, and in its place was a coldness I never thought they were capable of holding.
