Chapter 6 - The Tower

In his car, he drives into an abandoned woodland area that no one goes near with it is overgrown with nettles it also has a near to demolished building like a tower with parts missing. Michael goes to have a look pushing through the nettles ignoring the stings they leave on his skin for minutes that feel like an eternity.

Halfway through the woods he stumbles across a pond overgrown all way around. Perfect shallow water and he walks through it. His boots fill up with filth, and he shakes his boots to get an idea of how much water he had in them. Squelching through the woods with every step he took, he got into the deeps of the trees and there stands a tall tower-like building completely abandoned and forgotten about. The windows had been smashed, the front door was hanging on a slant, and the floors were full of grit, and broken glass amongst other things. Stepping over hills of rat skeletons. The change of scenery as he goes in further looking up the stairway as it goes around in a twirl. Missing steps but a perfectly sturdy fourth floor he wanted to see what was up there. First, he looks around while he may be staying he may as well make himself at home. First, he starts in the first jammed door that had been purposely locked from the inside. Eager to find what is in there he runs into the door sideways and hurts his arm he tries to find a tool that may work to open the door like a key but soon gives up trying and moves to another door. About to start next door he sees a telephone attached to the wall. He picks it off to see if it works. Stunned to know it does he gets chills of excitement. The devil inside Michael's head gets creative with thoughts of evilness. Taking it all in this will be his final destination.

Back at Jessica's. Michael peeps through her kitchen window he sees her taking pills from a little tub out of the cupboard. Throwing them back and gulping them down as quickly as possible with a small shot glass of water. She leaves the glass on the kitchen unit, turning the lights off as she makes her way upstairs to bed. He waits for the perfect moment. He sneaks in through the kitchen window and finds the tub of pills she had previously taken. A big sigh of relief breaks free along with a laugh that filled the room "sleeping pills" he says as he continues to smile. He proudly walks up the stairs into Jessica's bedroom as she drifts off into a deep sleep. He stands in the doorway waiting as her eyes close shut looking at him.

A patient ten minutes go by before he picks up her body and cradles her in his arms. Downstairs they go and into the boot, she rests. The boot door closes shut.

Michael runs back into the house and grabs a few supplies. The tub of sleeping pills and as many bottles of water as he could get his hands on. He grabs a plastic bag from the side and empties it on the counter. "She won't be needing them anymore," he says as he fills the bag with water and snacks to keep him going for a few days in the woods.

The counter left filled with her name badge, a small jar of coffee, her purse, and the reading book she had picked up from the library.

He leaves the house and closes the door. He gets in his car and a neighbor waves to get his attention. A friendly face appears in the wing mirror. He asks "bit late be going the tip don't you think?". Michael looks at him emotionless "I couldn't sleep so thought I may as well make myself useful before misses wakes up". The neighborhood laughs as he shakes his head. " so you're Jessica's new fella eh? Didn't think you'd be her type" the small awkward talk makes Michael nervous "yeah I guess sometimes you just got to lower your standards and try something new" he says jokingly as he turns the engine on and makes his escape before he talks some more "have a good one" the neighbor shouts as he waves to Michael.

If I can't have you no one will

At the tower, Michael sets everywhere up for what he thought was flawless for their first date. A round rusted table, and two leaning chairs that were rotting in the tower he had found. Now he just had to get Jessica out of the boot to join him at their table.

A hysterical Jessica jumps out of the boot kicking Michael out of the way. She runs for her life trying to get away from him. He follows racing after her and soon slows down as he hears her beating heart pounding close by. "You don't have to be afraid! He shouts.. I'm not going to hurt you, I just wanted to do something nice for you". Jessica stepped on a twig and the snapping noise alarmed the woods making birds flap from the tree tops. She moves avoiding sticks although the woods are full of them.

"You can't escape from me, Jessica!" Michael calls. "You won't get far in these woods I know them back to back, you're nowhere near home!". Jessica fears as she feels she's got no way out other than to face him.

She heads back towards the car. A plan that may work if she runs fast enough. She hurries to get into the front seat. Freaking out, she couldn't find the keys. She ducks hiding away from him as she sees a man in a navy blue jacket, dark hair, dirty blue jeans and walking boots come out of the thickly wooded area. Her eyes follow him as he marches around the tower including inside.

With no windows in the tower, Jessica takes the opportunity to attempt to jumpstart the car. The wires being too short to touch to make the spark she gets lowered down to see if that helps, but all the moving about in the car set the alarm off. Michael knows where she is. As she forces her body into a tight gap she manages to get the metal wires to spark. "Yes! Come on! Come on!" She says encouraging herself to keep going.

Praying for the car to start she had one more shot before Michael got to her.

The car alarm stopped and a sudden shudder went down her spine, she lifts her head refusing to engage with Michael as he fully focuses on Jessica. He forcefully opens the car door giving Jessica no option but to face him.

She manages to face him and she doesn't shy away this time. "What the hell is wrong with you?! You don't just lock me in a boot and leave me in there! You certainly don't hide around my house either watching me take sleeping pills, you PSYCHO!" She passionately yells in his face. The word psycho hits him hard like that is the only word to describe him and also hurt his feelings. He moves away from the car letting her get out. Just a lift of his arm and she cowers, not sure what he wants from her she stands with her arms crossed waiting for him to tell her what's going on.

He looks over at her seeing she's staying strong. "You're a tough one to crack aren't ya," he says as he walks over to the table. He pulls out a chair and offers her to sit down. She walks over going along with him. Maybe if she can distract him she'll be able to get away. So she hopes, she sits opposite him and asks "what do you want from me?" He looks at her leaning his chin upon his fist. "I just want to have dinner with a friend" he smiles. She looks around to see nothing but dirt, trees, and a pile of logs for a fire close to where they're sitting. "Why didn't you think to just call me? Instead of abducting me to your creepy little hideout for dinner!" She demands an explanation.

He finds a long stick big enough for a body to go on and rope with big cutters he had in the back seat to keep the body in place as it balances above a fire for their tea. Only he now has to reason with her as to why he did all those things just to get her to have a date with him.

He sits down apologizing and begins his explanation "I'm sorry. I am not a businessman, I'm not rich, and I don't live in a fancy posh house as you do with broad shoulders and a hot body. I don't reach your standards at all. But when you took me to the cafe and chatted with me for that hour of your time, you were even five minutes late for work and you weren't bothered because you made someone's day. You said to me that we're friends and if I need anything you are here. So I thought why don't I bring the dinner to you for a change? There's no man at home cooking your dinner and that's the least you deserve! I want to be that man you're missing in your life Jessica".

She sits puzzled unaware she had made Michael feel this way all from an act of kindness. "You got the wrong idea, Michael you got it wrong! I don't need a man to look after me I have been single for long enough to know that!" She tells him straight as she stands to leave. Upset and angered he grips the dirty table and in a demandingly stern voice he says "sit down!". Refusing to be told what to do she walks off into the pitched black woods.

Jessica strong willingly stands her ground. A woman no man will ever get to walk over made Michael break. "That's it!" He knocks the table over throws Jessica's chair out of the way and heads in the same direction as her. He sees her head bobbing up and down as she walks further away, he picks up a heavy rock from off the ground and gets closer to aim his shot. He throws it like a boulder knocking her straight down into the dirt. Knocking the back of her head, she falls to the ground face first.

He picks her up swinging her over his shoulder like a bag of spuds. He sits her on his chair and grabs the rope to strap her in.

"You are not going anywhere!" He tells her as she bleeds out of her head. The traumas were enough to put her in her hospital. Her body sits slouched in the chair as he gets the stick ready not sure what to do but feeling the hunger as his stomach starts to grumble, his inner self speaks once again. Telling himself she will never say yes to him and so if he can't have her no one will. Agreeing he checks her pulse as her beats get lesser and lesser. She's lost too much blood. "You probably wouldn't even make it in the ambulance.. I'm doing you a favor". Yet again another woman he believes is dead starts moving.

Michael wonders talking to himself as Jessica's eyes open. Flinching she's strapped to a chair. A human-length size stick lies beside her. She mouths the words "what the…" as Michael clocks eyes with her and drops the heavy pile of wood he'd later burn beneath her freshly deceased corpse. Like a rapid response, he tends to Jessica immediately as if he had a split personality he begins to help unstrap her by loosening the rope from around her chest and legs. She looks at him in shock unaware of how to respond she gets up and turns her back to him and THWACK! To the back of the head once again, Jessica falls to the ground and this time she does not wake up. The head trauma was too much and she had lost even more blood than she had before when she was in the deep wood.

Michael hits back to reality. Seeing Jessica on the floor unresponsive. He kneels grabs her bloody hair from the back and pulls it towards him and says maliciously "look what you made me do! If you just joined me for dinner you'd still be alive you stupid woman!".

With no company and a dead body on the ground, he has to dispose of her. He picks up the stick and remembers back to his wedding with Maggie they had a hog on a spit roast, turning round as its body went from pink to golden. Michael had nothing to sterilize he could only go wild on Jessica's body. He either eats her like she is or cooks her and eats her that way.

He starts by biting and tearing off her skin. Gagging as the blood comes running out of her arm dripping to the ground. "That's disgusting" he wipes his mouth on his jacket. Choosing to cook her instead he undresses her. Checking her pulse as he gently puts her on the table. Strapping one large stick across her spine and wrapping her in rope from her chest to her kneecaps. Keeping her arms in place it was just her head that flopped like a child's in a deep sleep as he lifts her hoping the stick was strong enough to hold her dead weight.

He balances her above the stick pile as he guilds the stick perfectly resting on two very long pieces of metal that had been purposely stuck into the ground for fires such as his own without a naked human being involved.

Chuffed with himself he digs in his jacket pocket for his lighter. And sets fire to her clothes and throws them directly underneath her warm body.
