Zayne walked into the room. He paused, glancing over to the bed, where Evelyn lay motionless on her side. The duvet was covering her, but something felt off. He could feel it. She wasn't okay.
Setting his suitcase aside, he walked over to the bed as he adjusted his tie, pulling it loose.
"Evelyn?" he called. But she wouldn't answer him. This was all the confirmation he needed to know that something was truly wrong. But what could have happened?
He walked over and sat at the edge of the bed. Her eyes were open and she was staring at the curtain that was spread about, leaving the view of the golden setting sun.
"Evelyn?" he called again. And even though she didn't answer him yet again, he reached out, brushing her hair off her face.
Her face was streaked with a line of tears.
His heart shook. What had happened? She had clearly cried. But why?
