I didn't know how relieved I was to see my parents coming to help us get back home in Supernaturalville. I didn't want to go back to the Alive at Midnight Mansion party. Because I knew it wouldn't be safe once our parents discovered what was happening there.
Mom and Dad walked over to me and wrapped me in a big, warm, welcoming bear hug. I struggled to breathe as I let out an exaggerated groan. They apologized quickly and let me go.
"One of our neighbors next door told us what you kids have been up to this weekend," Dad said, honestly. Mom handed me some kind of holiday poster. I unfolded the crumpled sheet of paper in my hands.
It read: "Come celebrate the Halloween party all night long at the Alive at Midnight Mansion! Whoever dresses in the scariest costume gets a golden trophy to take home!" I folded the poster back in my hands and groaned in disgust at my Mom and Dad in the crowd.
I didn't know if I should have trusted the party girl host who sent me the text on my phone invitation at first. But I knew I never would have gotten this far if I wasn't going to show myself at the Halloween party. Would it matter if I didn't make it work the next day?
If our parents didn't come to see us gone missing, there would be no real party to go to. I didn't want Mom and Dad to think we were doing anything wrong. Just having a good time at the Alive at Midnight Mansion Halloween party house in our haunted little town.
To make things even worse, our parents quickly started to lead us out of the sewer tunnels. Back up the ladder. The manhole leading out of the stinky sewer back into the main neighborhood.
I didn't want to go home to my apartment by myself. Because it was still dark and the Halloween party wasn't going to be over until sunrise in the morning. After we all had gathered in the middle of foggy street in town, the parents and their kids all went their different ways back to their homes in Supernaturalville.
I wanted to prove to Mom and Dad there wasn't anything going on at the Alive at Midnight Mansion party. We were just there to have some Halloween fun. Not hurting anybody or anything. So I tried to convince my own parents, I would go home right after the party was over at sunrise after Halloween tonight.
They looked at each other with blank, skeptical glances at each other. Not saying anything for a while, Dad finally nodded and agreed with me. "Okay, son. You can go back to the Halloween party house tonight," Dad promised me. I shouted a victory cry and pumped my fists in the air. "If you make sure you get plenty of sleep and rest the next day. So, you'll be well-rested for work at the Fun Flicks video rental store tomorrow afternoon," Dad said.
It started to lightning from the dark, storm clouds in the sky above us. I knew I wouldn't let Mom and Dad regret my decision to keep partying all night long. Until I would be so exhausted when I got home.
Suddenly, a yellow taxi cab squealed to a stop by the street next to Mom and Dad. I watched as Dad opened the back door to the yellow taxi cab. As Mom climbed into the back seat of the cab. Closing the door on her, Dad looked at me.
"You have my permission, kid, to have fun at the Halloween party tonight," Dad said. "You have until the next morning to make it home to your own apartment. And get plenty of sleep for your next work shift at your day job, okay son?" Dad asked.
It seemed fair enough to follow their rules. So, I nodded and said, "I'll text you guys as soon as the party is over, okay?" I promised, showing my smart cellphone in my hands to him.
Dad nodded and gave me another hug. "Okay, son. I trust you'll have a good time tonight. I don't have to worry about you. I want you to know to call me if anything goes wrong at the party mansion house, tonight, okay, son?" Dad asked, suspiciously.
After Mom and Dad rode away in the yellow taxi cab to go back to their own home in town, I found myself at the front yard of the Alive at Midnight Mansion again.
There I was about to walk through the front yard, walking up to the front stoop of the shadowy, creepy-looking house. It was decorated in Halloween costumes. I looked around the front yard to see tombstones placed in every row. I saw sinister-looking jack-o-lanterns with burning candles in their scary-carved faces placed all over the front porch.
The big, wooden gray door was covered in spiderwebs. With a large, oversized black tarantula crawling over the webbing on the door. I gulped nervously. I slowly started to open the front door. Then, the door slowly squeaked open by itself.
I could hear some high-pitched witch's cackling from inside the dark mansion. Flashes of blue lightning coming from a disco ball hanging in the living room ceiling blinked in the darkness. I was about to back away from the haunted house. Suddenly, a green, warty monster hand pulled me through the Alive at Midnight Mansion and slammed the front door behind me.
Nothing I could do but let out a bloody scream!
