Chapter 1 - The brightest light.

September 17th 2011

On this day, a girl named Lucy Minami was born in Kyoto. She had green eyes and blonde hair, and her very pale complexion was quite unusual for Japan. This could be attributed to genetics, or perhaps a genetic mutation was the cause.

As Lucy would lie in, her Mother, Sachiko Minami, would be very quiet compared to most babies who cry extensively after birth.

Sachiko: [Why did you give our daughter such a Western name, dear?]

The modest-looking man sitting in the chair next to his wife and daughter, who had just recently awakened Mr. Takeshi Minami.

Takeshi: [Well, I thought it would fit her rather western appearance because I mean, what are the chances]

Sachiko: [I mean, I guess that makes sense, but why do you think she came out this way? I mean, we both have brown hair and eyes.

Sachiko: [I'm not sure, honey, we can ask the doctor's]

As they would continue their casual chat about their daughter's rather unruly appearance, a doctor would walk in, rather handsome and calm looking, and he would walk over to them.

Doctor: [Hello there, Mrs. and Mr. Minami, how is everything going?]

Sachiko: [Well, I would say rather good, but it appears our baby has a mutation]

Doctor:[Oh?]

The Doctor would walk over, giving little Lucy a look, and he would notice her rather strange appearance.

Doctor: [Tell me, were you at a pond around the time you were pregnant?]

The woman would think back to a point where she was at a pond.

Sachiko: [Yes, I remember the one down the road, and my husband went there to swim]

The doctor's face developed a frown as he looked upon the family of 3, and he would then clear his throat.

Doctor: [Well, you see, the pond down the road, I've noticed that when mothers swim in it, their children seem to come out with a little mutation]

The parents would look at the doctor in pure shock.

Takeshi: [Wait for real!]

The man felt guilty as he was the one who suggested they swim there.

Doctor: [Yes, I heard rumors that the children get supernatural abilities, but I can not confirm]

Sachiko: [Why don't all of you bring it to the government's attention?]

The now upset woman would bluntly spout out

Doctor: [Well, a guy dressed in white came and threatened us, though I'm not even supposed to tell you that]

Sachiko would look down at Lucy, finding it hard to accept her as her child

As suddenly, Lucy would begin to cry loudly as if she had seen someone "die"

Sachiko: [What's the matter, dear]

She'd say craddling her

Takeshi: [I know she's a baby, but crying so randomly?

Doctor: [Could this be...]

September 20th, 2011

Sachiko would be sitting on the couch reading the newspaper, which read

The doctor found that his body seemed overworked

Sachiko: [HONEY!]

Takeshi would run and come rushing in, almost tripping on clothing.

Takeshi: [What's the matter, honey/]

He'd say sweating profusely

Sachiko: [The doctor whom we talked to was found dead]

Takeshi: [Are you serious....]

He'd say with a grim look on his face.

Sachiko: [Yes, I guess "the guy dressed in white" got to him]

Takeshi: [.....]

As the couple would sit in doubt of the fact that the doctor who was so kind to them had been brutally murdered, Lucy would begin to cry.

Sachiko: [Oh, Lucy dear]

Sachiko would stand up, rushing to Lucy, crattling her in her arms.

Lucy would cry as if she had seen death once more.

March 13th 2017

Lucy was reading a book about a lonely dragon. She was surprisingly smart for her age, at the top of her kindergarten class.

Sachiko: [Hey, Lucy dear.]

Lucy turned her head to her mother's voice.

Lucy: [Yes, Mommy?]

Sachiko: [I found you a babysitter.]

An 8-year-old girl named Mamoriko walked in as Lucy looked at the young girl, confused.

Lucy: [She barely looks older than me.]

She said, looking at the girl, wondering how the girl could be a babysitter.

Takeshi: [Well, we were on a budget, so we found a random kid. She seems responsible and said she can cook. Y'all will be fine.]

Lucy looked quite disappointed at her parents' behavior, as it was very irresponsible.

Lucy: [Ok, love, I love you both.]

Both of them would ignore her and walk out the door.

Lucy: [Ughh...]

She'd sigh as Mamoriko would walk over to her.

Mamoriko: [Hey there, Lucy-chan.]

Lucy would turn to her, observing Mamoriko. She looked somewhat normal, with only one odd trait: her bright blue eyes, which paired oddly with her brown hair and tan skin.

Lucy: [Oh, you're like me.]

She'd say, her mood seeming to light up. Mamoriko, at first, would be confused until she observed Lucy closely, seeing her also odd characteristics.

Mamoriko: [Does "like you" refer to superpowers by any chance?]

She'd say teasingly.

Lucy: [Hmm, maybe.]

She'd respond with a chuckle, amused by the girl picking up so quickly.

Mamoriko: [Well, what powers do you have?]

Lucy: [Well, I have visions of the future. I call it an unprecedented glimpse.]

She'd say proudly, striking a pose, but her new friend looked disappointed.

Lucy: [Hey, what's with that look on your face?]

She'd say, clearly offended.

Mamoriko: [It's just, I mean... future sight would've been cool, but just getting random visions is lame.]

Lucy would dramatically fall to the ground, her feelings hurt...

Lucy: [Jerk! Your powers are probably the lamest.]

Mamoriko would chuckle.

Mamoriko: [No need to be that way. It's just not what I expected.]

Suddenly, Lucy's book would fly into her hand.

Lucy: [Uhh...]

Mamoriko: [Telekinesis, awesome, right?]

Lucy would pout and realize just how lame her powers are, but suddenly she would hear a loud throat clearing.

Lucy: [Uh oh...]

As Lucy turned, she would see her parents standing at the door. Her mom had forgotten her purse.

Mamoriko: [This is bad....]

Sachiko: [Hun?]

Takeshi: [Yes, dear.]

Sachiko: [I think we should leave her by herself.]

Takeshi: [It's probably the safest choice.]

Lucy: [But you guys love me..]

Both her parents would frown.

Sachiko: [Hunny, we tried our hardest to raise you, but we simply aren't cut out for this. We've been considering this for a while now, so we've been saving up enough money so you can live here by yourself with enough to survive; this just made it final. The doctor theorized on this, and I guess he was right.]

Takeshi: [Yes, we are sorry, dear. We just aren't cut out to be parents.]

Lucy would burst into tears at the thought that her parents, whom she had cheered with all this time, had decided to give her up. She found it unfair, but Mamoriko would walk over to her and whisper.

Mamoriko: [There is this place I know of. When we are both 13 or older, we can join. It's for people like us.]

Lucy's eyes would widen, "more like them...!!"

Lucy Minami had a bad day, well, more horrible than anything. Her parents, whom she loved, had forsaken her. Something like that only happened in the books she read. Lucy's parents would leave a big bag with enough money for until Lucy turned 18, she could survive. Mamoriko and her stayed there using their funds wisely.

October 1st 2019

Lucy would be at a park that no one ever came to. Lucy only liked to come because she found it peaceful. She was reading a book when suddenly.

??: [Hey dork]

Lucy would turn her head to see an average looking Japanese boy, most likely around her age.

Lucy: [Yes, what do you want?]

The boy would walk over to her, snatching the book from her hand.

Lucy: [Hey, give that back]

She would reach for it back, but the boy was taller than her and raised it above his head.

Boy: [Lo-]

The boy would get lifted into the air, his body being turned in ways that we're sure to break his bones as he would scream.

Boy: [Wait, please, I'm sorry, forgive me]

The boy felt major pain, feeling as if his bones were certain to crack, but then he would be dropped, shattering his arm, he would then scream as Mamoriko would walk over to him and grab his chin, lifting it up,

Mamoriko: [If you ever mess with my best friend again, I'll break a leg too next time. Do you understand?]

Boy: [Yes, ma'am.]

He'd say, whimpering as he would, then run away out of the park.

Mamoriko: [How's it going? Lucy-chan?]

She'd say with a smile on her face.

Lucy: [Well, good until that boy came. Well, how did your meeting go?]

Mamoriko: [Well, they are excited for us to join and even gave us a test mission.]

Lucy: [Uhh... but like I have trash powers.]

Mamoriko: [Hmm, well, you are right, but I'm sure we can get you a weapon or something. Oh, by the way, they sent us someone to assist.]

Lucy: [Oh..]

Suddenly, a boy would walk over, with blue hair and yellow eyes, a white T-shirt, black pants, along with black dress shoes, a cloak with a leather strap connecting the two ends.

??: [Yo, oh wait hehe..]

The boy would slide over on his knees in a dramatic fashion, grabbing onto Lucy's hands, causing Lucy to gasp.

Lucy: [Uhh.. Excuse me, what are you...]

??: [You're beautiful; wanna go out with me?]

Lucy: [Oh, well.. What's your name?]

??: [My name is Aiji; I'm an honorary member of the Strikers.]

Lucy: [The Strikers?]

Mamoriko: [It's the name of the group of people like us who are called "the extraordinaries."]

Lucy looked with a deadpan face at the corny names that had been picked for the people she would have to associate with.

Lucy: [That's corny; in fact, very corny. I'm offended that I have to associate with you all.]

Aiji: [Ow, that hurts.]

Lucy: [Oh, sorry..]

Mamoriko: [Well, anyway... Aiji-kun, I think you should get to the mission details.]

She'd say, kind of annoyed with the fact he had his grubby little hands all over her best friend.

Mamoriko: [Oh, you're right.]

He'd stand up, brushing his knees off.

Aiji: [Well, anyway, one of the 7 Saints of Salvation is running amok; I believe it was Gratitude, and the boss wants us to handle it.]

Lucy would look puzzled by the statement; who exactly was "Gratitude"?

Lucy: [Who are you about?]

Aiji: [Do you not know anything.... Jeez, Mamoriko, you're bad at explaining.]

Mamoriko: [That's my bad, but um basically around 300 years ago, a bunch of people drank water from the pond and since they didn't have children they gained overpowered abilities and named themselves the 7 saints of salvation, they are really bad people]

Lucy would think about that fact if these people are so "overpowered" and all she can do is see the future.

Lucy: [That ma—]

Suddenly, Lucy would begin to convulse violently, almost akin to a small seizure.

Mamoriko: [HEY LUCY-CHAN, WHAT'S WRONG!!]

Lucy would begin to see something in the future that simply was unbelievable.

In the vision, she would see a body bag being pulled from the river. She appeared to have been watching this from a TV in the daycare. The body was very small and appeared to be shaped like that of a young kid, very similar to the likes of Aiji.

Lucy would snap back to reality, seeing Aiji and Mamoriko standing in front of her, shaking her.

Mamoriko: [LUCY!]

Aiji: [Lucy-chan, are you ok?]

They'd be shocked to see their friend in a horrible state such as this, you see, Lucy has not had a vision for a long time, and even then it was only a small one of a book falling on her father's head, none quite so violent not by a long shot.

Lucy, after catching her breath.

Lucy: [I had a vision, a bad one...]

She'd say her voice was shaking and cracking....

Aiji: [Mamoriko did mention you had visions.]

Mamoriko: [Yeah, she told me she hasn't had one in ages]

Lucy: [In this one, I saw a body bag shaped kinda like Aiji getting pulled from the river]

Aiji would step back in shock, he being killed was gratitude truly that dangerous? Would he truly be killed in this battle? He was only 9 years old, dying so early would be lame.

Aiji: [How accurate are your visions...]

Lucy: [Well, I've only had little ones, such as a book falling on my dad's head, and sometimes they're unclear, so all I'll say is, whatever I see comes true 100% of the time]

Aiji would fall back onto a bench, grabbing his head, clearly freaked out but didn't wanna show it in front of Lucy, whom he had developed a crush on. So he stood up with a smile.

Aiji: [Well, that's unfortunate, but uhh you know you shouldn't let your fate define you. We could always change it, right?]

Lucy: [Oh... yeah, I guess it could be hypothetically changed.]

Mamoriko: [Yeah for sure..]

Lucy: [I think we should get going.]

Aiji: [Y—]

Aiji's phone would ring, well, more buzz, it appears he has silent mode on, he would quickly lift his phone.

??: [GRATITUDE IS IN THE AREA GET OVER THERE ON 97 STREET!!]

Aiji: [Right!]

He'd hang up the phone, turning to Lucy and Mamoriko.

Aiji: [Gratitude is on 97th Street, we have to get over there immediately.]

Mamoriko: [Right!]

Lucy would nod, quite nervous by the fact she'd be engaged in combat for the first time, and her powers were lame... wait a minute, what about Aiji?

Lucy: [Aiji-kun?]

He would turn around, quite confused by the sudden change in tone.

Aiji: [Yes?]

Lucy: [What are your powers?]

She'd think to herself, is it possible that he's a nobody with no powers?

Aiji: [So you just I'm some type of nobody, wow, that's kinda rude, little Ms. Lucy]

Lucy: [uhh.. That was it, he ha—]

Aiji: [Yep mind mind-reading]

Mamoriko: [I hate to break up the cute exchange, but we must go]

Lucy: [Oh yeah]

They'd walk outta the front gate as a "Uber driver" would be waiting in for them, they would run over and hop in.

Aiji: [Yo ]

??: [Yeah Aiji-kun]

Aiji: [Do you have the stuff?]

??: [Of course]

The boy who didn't seem old enough to drive would hand Aiji and Lucy weapons, Lucy being given two sickles, and Aiji was handed a whip.

Mamoriko: [I picked the sickles out for you.]

She'd say with a smile.

Aiji: [Thanks]

She'd say with a slight smile

The ride there was short, but when they arrived, they saw a boy with grey hair, one yellow eye, and the other brown standing there. He donned an all black track suit with a cape poorly stitched onto it, he seemed to weigh around the weight of Aiji.

They'd step out and walk towards him, standing side by side.

Gratitude: [My name is Nusumi, the 7 Saints of Salvation member representing Gratitude.]

Lucy: My name is Lucy Minami]

Aiji: [Just Aiju]

Mamoriko: [Same no last name.]

Nusumi: [We—]

Nusumi wasn't even able to finish his sentence before he was flung back into the ground.

Mamoriko: [Take that sucker.]

Nusumi would stand unscathed.

Nasumi: [Thank you for the wonderful gift.]

Lucy: [uhh..]

Mamoriko's attack had not caused any harm; he simply "tanked" it, but Aiji would attack with his whip, but it did no damage.

Nasumi: [I'm quite grateful for you showing up today, it shows great consideration for my feelings, and for that, you have my gratitude.]

"Gratitude," that's it, it had clicked in Lucy's mind.

Lucy: [He takes any attack we throw at him as a "gift" so we gotta.... THROW HIM IN THE RIVER"

The two would turn to Lucy, looking at her, her allies looked amazed, but gratitude had fear in his eyes as he was lifted into the air.

Nasumi: [Wait, I know I've killed plenty of people, but you have to understand they didn't gift me so I couldn't have gratitude, don't yo—]

As he tried to speak, he was thrown into the lake. He tried to swim away, but Aiji would use his admormally long whip to pull a rock from the other side with Mamorokio's help and place it on his chest, causing him to sink to the bottom.

Nasumi: [This is unfair, I don't appreciate this at al—]

He would begin to struggle as his heart rate increased, he was gasping and flailing but he could not get move he would attempt to cry but he would just chock on water he felt like his lungs were being crushed he tried to hold his breath but sucked more water in water flooded his lungs he went asphyxiate he would be disoriented and felt weak but tried his hardest to fight back but to no avail the CO2 built in his body gave him the rapid to wanna breath but he couldn't he felt like his lungs would exploded

Nasumi: [...gAwabh]

His brain suffered permanent damage, and his heart stopped shortly after. His body fluids would be released as he drifted down to the bottom.

Lucy: [That was easy]

Mamoriko: [He had no firepower, so yeah, I guess he couldn't fight back]

Aiji: [I know he was a bad person, but this makes me feel bad in a way.]

Lucy: [Yeah, he was a little kid like us, even if he was 300 or so years old...]

After a few days, Lucy and Mamoriko would be watching TV at their house as they would observe officers dragging a body bag out from the lake they had wrapped it in before pulling it out because of the horrible shape it was in.

Lucy: [So that was my vision]

Mamoriko: [yeah... It's better than it being Aiji-kun.]

Lucy: [Yeah...]

September 20th 2024

Lucy would be standing looking at herself in the mirror, her hair had grown out and it was brushed nicely by Mamoriko, topped off with a butterfly clip, she had on a green oversized sweater, blue tights, and black sneakers.

Mamoriko would walk in, grabbing her friend from behind playfully.

Mamoriko: [You're 13 now, are you ready to join the strikers?]

Lucy: [Even if it is a corny, yeah, I'd like that, let's go!]
