Chapter 105 - CHAPTER 105

c105: The Joy of Harvest

At a glance, the scrolls were full of densely inscribed formulas and seals, their complexity so overwhelming that any ninja lacking a foundational mastery of fūinjutsu or advanced ninjutsu theory would feel like they were trying to decipher an alien script.

As a scion of the Uchiha clan renowned for its prodigies and rich in intellectual and shinobi heritage Gen Uchiha was well-versed in advanced theoretical ninjutsu. He could understand the scrolls, but even for him, the task was formidable.

Fortunately, Uchiha Gen wasn't desperate to master the techniques overnight. His mind was steady, unhurried, and rooted in the long-term pursuit of power. He remained calm and patient, qualities rare among younger shinobi.

In truth, the techniques themselves weren't the greatest challenge. Even a standard Konoha Genin with access to a knowledgeable teacher and enough time could gradually decode the jutsu. The true barrier to mastering the Flying Thunder God Technique (Hiraishin no Jutsu) was not intellectual but physiological: the user's reaction speed and innate aptitude for spatial ninjutsu.

The jutsu's original creator, Tobirama Senju, had been hailed for his genius in time-space techniques, but even he paled in comparison to Namikaze Minato, who had elevated the Flying Thunder God to its pinnacle through both talent and relentless refinement. Minato's feats such as instantly neutralizing multiple Iwagakure shinobi during the Third Great Ninja War were testament to his unparalleled reflexes and intuition in combat.

Even Minato's direct subordinates Shiranui Genma, Iwashi Tatami, and Raidō Namiashi could only use a simplified team-based version of the Flying Thunder God Jutsu, and only with precise coordination. Without Minato's level of spatial sensitivity and mental processing speed, it was impossible to replicate his solo combat efficiency.

This meant Uchiha Gen's main concern was whether he possessed sufficient spatial-temporal aptitude.

By the time he finished dinner, Uchiha Gen had thoroughly reviewed the opening layers of the technique. To his satisfaction, his insights confirmed it: he had some degree of innate talent for time-space manipulation. It would not be an easy journey, but it was not beyond his reach.

What many in the shinobi world mistook for innate "talent" was often a matter of exposure. In his previous life in a modern society, Gen had grown up amid scientific and philosophical discussions about time and space through media, literature, and education. Even without formal study, the concepts were part of the cultural air he breathed.

By contrast, the ninja curriculum in Konoha was painfully narrow—designed to mold young minds into obedient tools. Its purpose was practical efficiency, not philosophical exploration. Very few ninja had the opportunity, let alone the inclination, to question the metaphysical properties of time and space.

Thus, Uchiha Gen had a distinct advantage: foundational conceptual knowledge. That gave him confidence, even if he wasn't naturally "born for Hiraishin" like Minato.

After dinner, Gen grew lazy. Rather than wash dishes himself, he infused the used utensils with a touch of spiritual energy, animating them as homies—a practice he'd adopted to make daily life more convenient. His sentient dishes happily leapt into motion, cleaning themselves in the sink. Zhu Rong and Wu Sheng, his primary spirit companions, acted as kitchen supervisors.

Gen chuckled and praised their diligence before returning to the scrolls.

Thanks to the Kyuubi Rebellion, the Hokage's residence had been left unguarded during the chaos. A shadow clone of Gen had seized the opportunity to infiltrate and copy the entire Scroll of Seals a collection of forbidden techniques once hidden by Tobirama Senju himself, and later protected by the Third and Fourth Hokage.

Unlike the general ninjutsu library, the Scroll of Seals contained only jutsu deemed too dangerous for wide distribution jutsu with risks that could maim or kill the user, or destabilize villages if misused.

The second technique in the scroll was the Multi Shadow Clone Jutsu (Tajuu Kage Bunshin no Jutsu), an advanced version of the standard clone technique.

Gen skimmed past it.

He understood its utility: Naruto had used it to great effect because of his vast chakra reserves, bolstered by the Nine-Tails within him. However, Gen wasn't a Jinchūriki. For ordinary ninja, producing hundreds of clones would lead to fatal chakra exhaustion. Even most elite shinobi avoided it.

Notably, Hiruzen Sarutobi had forbidden its teaching because it posed too much risk without a chakra monster like Kurama backing it.

Gen noted it but left it for reference.

Then came the Four Symbols Seal, the Eight Trigrams Seal, and other complex sealing techniques. Gen smiled with interest. These were advanced forms of fūinjutsu used by Minato to seal half of Kurama inside Naruto while placing the other half within Kushina. Learning them would significantly enhance his sealing repertoire.

He decided to set time aside for their study. "Skills may burden the idle, but they never betray the prepared," he thought.

Next came the Impure World Reincarnation (Edo Tensei).

"This one… definitely Orochimaru's style," Gen muttered.

The jutsu, originally devised by Tobirama, allowed the user to summon the dead by binding their souls to living sacrifices. But it was incomplete. In its current form, the summoned could not retain full combat effectiveness, and the binding was unstable—hence why the original users often paired it with explosive measures, like the Mutually Multiplying Explosive Tags.

Gen dismissed it for now. His ethics—though flexible—still balked at the casual desecration of the dead. "Maybe when I grow colder," he mused.

The Mutually Multiplying Explosive Tags (Kibaku Fuda: Kassei) were, in theory, ingenious: a single tag would summon more tags in endless chains of detonation. But maintaining chakra output during the cascade made it incompatible with instantaneous techniques like Hiraishin. Moreover, Tobirama himself had used it in a kamikaze manner—suggesting its unsuitability for long-term strategies.

"Too flashy. Too expensive. Too stupid," Gen thought, moving on.

Then he found the Eight Gates Technique (Hachimon Tonkō).

Now this had potential.

Though not immediately life-threatening in its early stages, the technique unlocked progressively greater physical power by forcibly releasing the body's natural limiters. Might Guy would later become a legend through its mastery. Gen noted its benefits for body conditioning and basic enhancement—not to reach Gate Eight, but as a means of long-term strength building.

The Spiritualization Technique, already familiar from earlier research, allowed the user's soul to leave the body. It had tactical uses, but also massive risks. He bookmarked it.

Then came the Corpse Sealing Technique (Shiki Fūjin), the terrifying jutsu used by Hiruzen to seal Orochimaru's arms. Gen was deeply curious: could he cast the technique using a homie's soul as the sacrifice instead of his own?

If so, the cost of using such a deadly jutsu would plummet. It would turn a suicide move into a reusable weapon. However, its limits were clear: the Death God could not kill beings beyond the tier of Six Paths Sage Mode, and likely had no dominion over Rinnegan-level entities. In fact, even the King of Hell, a creature associated with the Rinnegan, was likely above the Shinigami in spiritual hierarchy.

After skimming the remainder of the scroll and finding no more techniques of interest, Gen leaned back.

"Zhu Rong," he called, "burn it."

With his Sharingan, Gen had committed every detail to perfect memory—like a living recording. He could recall the exact diagrams, chakra formulas, and hand seals at will, and even project them as mental imagery for future training or genjutsu.

The fire spirit, Zhu Rong, flew in from the kitchen, eagerly grabbing the scroll with his clawed hands. With a burst of chakra flame, he incinerated the paper over a basin, reducing it to ash before flushing it away with a casual turn of the faucet.

"Go on," Gen said.

Zhu Rong and Wu Sheng returned to their seats like well-trained familiars. Gen stood at the doorway, eyes burning with ambition as he stepped out under the starlit sky.
