Midvale lay in deep slumber like a drunk person as heavy sleep settled down, but Kaia was wide awake. Her room felt more like a jail cell which wouldn't allow her to escape the nostalgic thoughts, her walls reminding her of things which felt like memories haunting her. Her fingers gently caressed the icy cold scars etched on her wrists, reminders disguising themselves as this life wasn't a choice.
"Kaia, you need to talk to me. I know something's wrong," came Stephan's voice through the door, precisely how she imagined it.
His eyes looked both tired and angry, concern apparent in his expression while deep in thought. They were red.
Meeting Kelsey for the first time made me whisper the words, "I don't know what I am."
Stephan replied "I think we've been afraid of something, and that's what you are," whilst slowly nodding his head and running his fingers through her hair. "But see, we're family. We face it together."
Whispers came out of the back of his mouth having the power to lead her to a destiny she never thought existed, a legacy which would forever alter her life. Armed with nothing, she was an undying force tied to an ancient bloodline, guardians, and hunters entwined through the concentration of centuries washing over her. The lake hadn't just changed her, it had activated something that was put to sleep long ago.
She was the only one being kept in the cellar. She could feel how in the darkness and calid her mind turned dangerous when Raine kept digging.
Dark tricks came to my head. In a more secluded place to midvale outside of the constantly attacked she was now trapped. Unbeknownst to her were unseen forces which kept her on their radar.
A storm was brewing—one that would require unwavering fealty and sacrifice of life.
